Didn't the swastika originate as an Egyptian symbol for peace? I dunno if that's where it originated but I'm positive that's what it meant (history channel ).
The Nazis tilted it 45 degrees. Diff. symbol entirely as the skewed symbol for peace represents some kind of disrupt of peace. If nazis weren't so goddamn stupid they'd know that.
It was used by everyone from Egyptians to Native Americans. It represents a range of positive things from prosperity, peace and good luck. Tilting it may have been a cleaver trick like flying your flag upside down. Symbolism sucks.

I haven't seen it, didn't even know it existed. I've seen Clerks, Mall Rats, Dogma, just about every one, or so I thought.

These people, do they represent europeans in the same way that many seem to think backwards ass rednecks in america are a fair way to lump into statements starting with "90% of all americans..........." ?????
I'd hope not. I personally like to believe that most europeans are just a nice a fellow as I, and that these hooligans are just that.
I will say this once more nicely before I get really pissed off about it: the actions of a few do not in any way represent the rest. These thugs are not "fans" of the game. They are hooligans, nothing more, and they are taking advantage of the immaturity of others.
Please do not mistake them for true fans of the game.

Agreed. Assholes are everywhere, and are fans of every sport.

well of course, I did'nt mean all fans, obvioulsy not. but it does seem that football has more than just a few of these kinds of people. but to say that they are not fans of the game would be incorect, nevertheless, I love the sport, I play the sport, I also can see that this type of stuff happens far too often.
but to say that they are not fans of the game would be incorect
Where do most of the "fan" violence incidents happen?
I'll tell you where--OUTSIDE the stadium. You know why? Because the thugs who have nothing to do with the game just put on the jerseys and claim the name and hang around outside. Happens just about everywhere, especially with the major clubs.
I stand by my original statement that comes from years of watching crap like this develop from a seedy sideplot to a full-blown problem in the world game: these thugs are NOT fans of the game. No true fan of the game would drag the name of football through the mud like that.

well yes, perhaps in a more spiritual sense, they are not "true fans" of the game, but it does happen in the stadiums, I mean unless bananas are getting launched from the parking lot onto the pitch? and I think it's a abit of a stretch to say that they just put on the jersey to disrupt. but again, don't take offense to what I said, I cleared up that obvioulsy not all the fans are like this, perhaps I should've made my first post more clear so this little thing with you would not of happened, nevertheless. understand that I'm a fan of the sport, so it would not make sense for me to call myself these things also. so don't take offense.
also, in the US after some games we see riots and such (baseball games), but they don't seem to be race related as much as the riots in europe seem to be. that's the issue.

Exactly. It's a poor defense for the thugs in Europe, but they actually fight over there. Here, it's usually not much more than opportunistic looting and a chance to cause property damage or cop a feel on some college chicks.
In europe, racism is an integral part of football - whether its club or country...Has been since football began...since teams, or more specifically supporters, decided on their allegiances...Over here we are kinda blase about it because it happens so frequently - look at dutch/italian/english leagues...Croatia doesn't seem like a likely candidate for such behaviour given their recent history - but then you can never account for madness - 'after all, description is explanation...' H
What do you call 3 sheep tied together in the middle of Wales? - A Leisure Centre.
I was pretty racist until I read Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs, and Steel." For me, the argument for racism had been the disproportionate contributions between the different races in terms of technological and sociological advancement. "Guns, Germs, and Steel" put it into perspective for me. People in Croatia obviously have not read that book.
Just FYI, it's been a problem within the game in Europe for quite a while now, particularly with the influx of African players in the "power" leagues in Europe (i.e. the English Premiership, La Liga in Spain, Bundesliga in Germany, Ligue Un in France, and Serie A in Italy). This is not exactly a new phenomenon.
Of course this will only further perpetuate the (unfair) stereotype of the "hooligan" football fan in Europe. It's worth noting that when you consider the demographic of many football fans (young, male, low-to-middle class income), it's no wonder that extremist groups make it a point to show up at football stadiums in the hope of recruiting new members.
I'll close by adding that a few bad apples don't spoil the whole bunch.
maybe it's not an unfair stereotype of the hooligan. It may be unfair to extrapolate that out to the whole lot of soccer fans, i'll give you that. And I never intended to give that impression. But the fact is it does happen and Eurpoe is trying to clean it up, but it is still a problem, that's all I wanted to say.
On a side it is ironic that americans get labled as backwards by europeans and we all get lumped together and we get looked down upon b/c we're not as civilized...yet this occurs. And I fully realize that this is a minority of the population, yet it is a VERY visible minority.

Hey you all writing all shit stuff on us (Croats).
I'm from Croatia!
You can't judge the whole nation from just one picture!!!!! There are maybe 50 people on this pic making swastika with their bodies. But it's not everyone in our country.
As this WC game is coming everybody's talking 'bout racism an nacizm in Croatia. These people on the pic and others (recists...) are complete idiots, BUT you CAN'T shit on all of us Croats! Can YOU???!!!?!
There will always be individuals making public mess and just to drop in the eyes of the media (papers, TV...).
Our nation is very very divided regarding our history, and I have a feeling they even don't know all the details of it.
I, personaly, am con regarding these provocations. The majority in my country is! We are tending and longing to enter EU asap but people (which are uneducated, illiterate) don't give a shit for that, and behaving like this.
I want to say that a huge majority of these people going on a football games, here in Croatia, go just to have or start a fight. There is a small number of people attending games for their joy and pleasure. It's SAD, VERY SAD!
So please, don't judge us, CROATS, because of these motherfuckers.
God bless ya all!

I still don't understand the point of being racist.
People should be correctly informed about genetics and so on...
They would more easily understand that we are all genetically similar...
I've nevr understand racism, and i think I will never.
Unfortunately, I think there will be racists as long as there will be idiots... and it's not going to finish so soon, when I see all the idiots everywhere...
