Not when it comes to his beliefs about homosexuality. It doesn't concern me that he or the majority of his people have strange beliefs.
I'm just a little surprised by your unwillingness to give even the slightest bit of ground on this issue. It's not surprising to me that you're unwilling to advocate military force towards Iran (which I agree with). You even seem unwilling to admit that he may have his hands dirty in some horrific crimes against his people and is the leader of a country with a terrible human rights record.
Let me ask you, what is your problem then with international pressure? With business divestment? With aggressive diplomacy? It's okay to call him a brutal leader, it doesn't make Bush and his administration any more legitimate.
It's not just about his views on gays, it about the pass someone gave him because his view is due to his religious beliefs. So, it would go for all issues, not just gays.
Nevermind, not worth it.
The fact of the matter is that I am not concerned about his belief system because it doesn't affect me. Sarah Palin's does. Her belief system can influence my laws and my life. Therefor, I am far more concerned.

I think your wrong in that it doesn't effect you...but fair enough.
Ok, so he gets a pass for saying there are no gays because of his religious beliefs, but Palin gets hammered for her religious beliefs and no dinosaurs?
A pass? No, he doesn't get a "pass" whatever that is.
He is not running for office here. He wouldn't come close to being nominated here. That is obvious.
I'm talking about the way the press portrays this guy. As I said, I disagree with much of his policies, but to paint him as a kook is irresponsible and dangerous.

I have never once said that I don't advocate international pressure or aggressive diplomacy. In previous post when I have said that we should leave them alone, I have been mostly referring to military actions. I do believe any pressure should be from the international community, for sure not from the U.S. alone.

It is their world and the majority of their people want to live the way they do.
Why is it America's business to interfere everywhere around the world? Let's worry about our own problems. Education, health care, and infrastructure.
Our foreign policy around the world is what's creating the terrorism. Quit fucking with your neighbors house and clean your own home! Especially when your neighbors don't bother you.
It's not what the majority want; he was being deceitful. He may have been elected, but it was an election where the liberal/progressive's where taken off the ballot. So imagine an election here where the only candidates are Mcain, bush, Palin, Romney..etc. you get the picture.
The majority of the people dont want to live this way and they will eventually revolt. Of course, if the US or Israel intervenes that would bring the country together and it'll be a cluster again.
Reading Open's post, it made it clear to me that none of us, unless we're living in Iran or have recently, can really know for sure what the consensus is on their leader, whether good or bad. All I can know for sure are the testimonials of those who have left and the news reports that do get out and they do not paint a heartening picture.
Brandon, if you agree with all those things why were you disputing my argument when I continuously said that military intervention is not right or possible in Iran?
I think I remember him saying that shortly after his election but changing his point after the worldwide outrage. But my memory could be wrong about that. As I wrote later, he definitely promoted the idea of 'moving' Israel to Europe in a german magazine. And he used the word 'ismihlal' towards Israel which can be translated as 'destruction' (he did this 4 months ago).
"Imam ghoft een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad."
Imam (Khomeini) ghoft (said) een (this) rezhim-e (regime) ishghalgar-e (occupying) qods (Jerusalem) bayad (must) az safheh-ye ruzgar (from page of time) mahv shavad (vanish from).
"Ahmadinejad did not refer to Israel the country or Israel the land mass, but the Israeli regime. This is a vastly significant distinction, as one cannot wipe a regime off the map. Ahmadinejad does not even refer to Israel by name, he instead uses the specific phrase "rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods" (regime occupying Jerusalem)."
why dont our leaders sit down and talk to him? seriously? what would be the harm?
I have nothing against the everyday Iranian. I would be willing to bet they have nothing against me. Lets talk to them.
Hahahahahahahaha!
Well first this guy hates Jews. Second almost every country in the United Nations is conpletely fed up with the guy. He thinks America is the fucking Devil, then we have him on Larry King??? Man some of you here need to get you heads straight.
You people really scare me. Lets envite the wolf in for dinner. We maybe pigs but if we are kind to him he might be kind back.
LOL Please people. WAKE UP!
Get em a Body Bag Yeeeeeaaaaa!
Sweep the Leg Johnny.

if saudia arabia, iran, iraq, etc had military bases across our country, in the middle of our national parks, and tried to force their ways on us, and bought off our leaders in order to do so, we might not like them so much either. when one of them stands up to us, its on. they are the bad guy.
Iran is not part of the United States. who the fuck are we to tell soverign nations what they can and cannot do. its as simple as that.
Also, I dont believe my leaders anymore. Thats the truth. I dont know what this guy is up to. We have no fucking idea. Just like Hussein has WMD, he is enriching uranium for nukes? I say talk to him. Call me crazy. The cycle of bullshit nonsense hatred and tension with this country and the others we have been told to hate has to stop somewhere, sometime.
All that's sacred, comes from youth....dedications, naive and true.
Don't ever underestimate you enemy. The moment you do you loose.
Globalism is the real enemy. The president of Iran is powerless therefor he is not my enemy. Im guessing you believed Sadam Hussien was a threat and had WMD's?
Dislike of George Bush is understandable. I can't stand the guy either. But that doesn't mean some of you libs should automatically throw your support behind Ahmadinejad. Anyone who values individual freedom, and finds very religious people in positions of power dangerous (as you do Palin) should also find plenty to dislike about Ahmadinejad. It is actually possible to dislike both Bush and Ahmadinejad. I know I do.
Very very good point... neither of them are Gandhi!

unfortunately his view reflects the view of the people he's representing also. Homosexuality is not acceptable in a lot of middle eastern countries... and not just by the government. Alot of his beliefs that we'd laugh at are common beliefs and opinions there.

You have to be open enough to understand that even your own president can be your enemy. When a president values $$ over the lives of his own soldiers and innocent civilians, then he is an enemy.
It's not just about his views on gays, it about the pass someone gave him because his view is due to his religious beliefs. So, it would go for all issues, not just gays.

He uses religion as a tool, dont brand a religion based on a country's leadership. It would be like judging Christianity based on Bush and the evangelicals.
oh what might have been ... anyways - the people of iran are handcuffed ... it's unfortunate the religious zealots there have taken over gov't and have imposed restrictive democratic laws ... having said that - ahmandinejad is no threat to world peace and people who want to buy the sound bite propanganda pr campaign are not really interested in solving any problems ...
He uses religion as a tool, dont brand a religion based on a country's leadership. It would be like judging Christianity based on Bush and the evangelicals.
Now let's get one thing straight. I'm not a Ahmadinejad-lover or admirer.
I think he's every bit a religious lunatic. A looney.
Personally I think he's one hell of an actor and really plays this character very well.
On the other hand he has spoken many truths and many facts in the things that he has said. Much more factual than George Bush, Chenney or McCain or Obama have ever spoken.
But his country is ruled my Islamic law and they are quite hateful to homosexuals. There's a reason there aren't many homosexuals there. because they either keep it underground (or in the closet), get the hell out of the country or they are murdered.
They have some sick, religion-based lunacy, there.
He never said he hates the Jews. He dislikes the Zionists. Big difference.
Zionists are no different than Islamic or Christian extremists. They are sick fuckers.
Sheesh, I can't believe these questions Larry King was asking. I don't blame Larry King or his writers.
It amazes me that 4...5 years later we still have people in this country who believe this guy said he wants to wipe Israel off the map and that he hates Jews.
We have got to be the most backwardass, ignorant and slow country on the planet.
Ahmadinejad has explained and clarified his comments several times and there was a distinct and obvious error in the interpretation of what he said.
Although one could argue that he, Ahmadinejad himself, choose his words poorly or for the sake of drama and effect used his words rather loosely.
Regardless, much like the Iraq war where we still have citizens in this country (and a potential Vice President) who believe the invasion of Iraq was a response for involvement in the 9/11 attacks; we still have numb-minded individuals who simply believe and parrot what any irresponsible news source or President (Bush) spits out of his dispicable mouths.
It amazes me these questions still have to asked 4 or 5 years later.
Well, not amazes me. I know why Americans stay stupid. Because two-faced, lying, irresponsible politicians and talk show hosts continue to repeat the same bullshit lies and misconceptions....over and over.
Looking back on this thread, to the people I was debating with, is it fair we can agree on this.
-Bush is an undeniably crappy president.
-Military intervention in Iran is not a good idea.
-Ahmadinejad is a crappy President who leads a country with a horrific human rights record, and if steps besides military action could be taken to stem such violence, they should be.
I think that's all I've been trying to say this whole time, personally.
