Wow...there's some insight to be gained here about our dear angelica. Comiccon recently?
Did you catch my earlier post in this thread...my father is this eccentric collector dude--once of comics books (and is still a major record collector in Canada). I was raised on the old school comics and a complete subculture life of the day. Although, it's embarassing that I've forgotten much of my comic book past. I personally adored the Spirit, who sadly could not compete with his complete lack of superpower. :( My other fave, though, Captain Marvel sure could. He'd kick Superman's butt, that's for sure.

"As you know, l'm quite keen on comic books. Especially the ones about superheroes. I find the whole mythology surrounding superheroes fascinating. Take my favorite superhero, Superman. Not a great comic book. Not particularly well-drawn. But the mythology... The mythology is not only great, it's unique. Now, a staple of the superhero mythology is, there's the superhero and there's the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn't become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S", that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears - the glasses, the business suit - that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent. He's weak... he's unsure of himself... he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race (...)" (Bill - Kill Bill Vol. 2)

You would be happy to know that there is now a Spirit comic coming out monthly from DC....and it's been a great read so far.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

Not to mention your independents, some of whom just can't play with the big boys.
Pleeeeease tell me they aren't talking about the turtles....the ninja turtles would waste every superhero known to man.....well, maybe with the exception of Batman.....
I'M NOT A SLAVE TO A GOD THAT DOESN'T EXIST.
I'M NOT A SLAVE TO A WORLD THAT DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT.
It's like the weakest link. At the begining certainly Superman would be the biggest threat, and thus why all the other's would work to bring him down, the process would continue until few heroes are left, and they would be some of the weakest. I think Touche would win because he would be considered one of the weakest, but he is very cunning and would prevail in the end.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire
Well, in Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns", Batman (he is 65 years old in the comic book) did beat Superman. However he has a heart attack a few seconds later.
In conclusion: Batman is the man.

When you're not degrading the forum and threads, you can be really fun, Roland.... ( and unlike Collin, your username reminds me of the Roland brothers, particularly Ed, from Collective Soul)

Issue three, I believe, came out a couple of weeks ago. Darwyn Cooke is the writer/artist.....does a great job capturing the Eisner feel.

Cool! Thanks for the info. I called my brother up to see if he'd heard, and no...it looks like my family has been unaware. So it sounds like they are all new stories then. Did you read the original Eisner comics?

Just bits and pieces of the Eisner stuff......and yes, these are all new stories. There is also going to a Spirit feature written and directed by Frank Miller.

I just got off the phone with my dad. He's wanting to check out the new Spirit stories so I'm passing on the word. He was buying the Montreal Gazette in the '40s as a kid, to get the pages that were meant to be cut down and stapled into a 32 page Spirit comic book. A Frank Miller feature sounds amazing. I hope it goes through. I've periodically heard about the Spirit going big screen and have yet to see it.
About the new comics....is Ebony still a regular character? Ebony just might be quite politically incorrect in this day and age.

What about Wolverine. The man has the ability to heal himself from any wound. His skeleton is reinforced with adamantium. Give him a piece of kryptonite and Superman gets shredded.
"When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul
from wikipedia:
Professor Xavier can erase, create, and manipulate thoughts and memories, control the actions of others, mentally induce pain, paralysis, unconsciousness, and even death in other people. He can completely shut down the mind and body of others...
...There is also evidence he hasn't truly shown his true powers sometimes sending messages that it is because he is a good man that he doesn't do a certain feat, but that he is capable of if he wishes
Damn!
The question is, would this effect Superman, or does he have some sort of psychic protection that is part of his power like other super heroes do?

The Ebony has been indeed been changed. Is your father aware that DC has been reprinting the Eisner "Spirit" stories in a hardback format?
Spirit #3 shipped on February 21st. Check this link out for news on the movie:

Doomsday not only kicked superman's ass, he killed the motherfucker! and this counts because in the Sentience run he actually became a good guy, thus becoming a superhero.
By the way, during one of his fights with Superman, during the Hunter/prey series, Doomsday breaks Superman's arm, even when Superman was becoming more and more powerful.
Yeah, he has some of the hardcover Spirit books. I know I got him one for his birthday when they started making them probably 5 or so years ago--it was the second of them. I really hope they make this movie. I've heard about the Spirit being made into a movie since the 80's and it's never panned out. I'm a little sad this one is not yet cast or a little further along in production, but it looks hopeful. I'm sure they could do such an amazing job. Thanks for all the info!
