I agree, that Becky Fischer lady was a bit of a kook. As a Christian, i've never defended far right "Christians" like her. i will say that equally pathetic was the "Liberal, feminist" lady they show near the end of the clip. She is off the opposite end.
Also i find it pathetic the way people hold up Becky Fischer as a shining example of Chritianity. Or equate all Christian youth groups with the ones in the early part of this clip. I was laughing almost out loud at the way the the clip blended from that lady into images of everyday Christian kids, listening to music, riding skateboards and other such outrageous things. I could be wrong, the images were a tad grainy, but, was that Mac Powell from the band Third Day, they showed when they were talking about Christian music? Yep, i've always thought that Mac Powell character was a dangerous, dangerous man. Sheesh. Do any of you realize that Third Day has had at least one album produced by Brendan O'Brien.
Look, i, speaking as a Christian, agree that that woman's rhetoric was a smidge disturbing, but, anyone here who would suggest that, violence and hatred are being preached in Sunday schools throughot America, really needs to give it up.
"When all your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse... better find yourself a place to level out."
i guess it's possible...just seems strange to say things like
"this means war!"
then talk about muslim fundamentalists training their kids to make bombs, where bomb belts, throw hand grenades and give their life for islam then end it by saying "I want to see young ppl who are as committed to jesus christ as these young ppl are to the cause of islam. i want to see them radically laying down their lives for the gospel as..as..they are over in pakistan and israel and palestine..."
I def agree it would seem strange, that's why i wanted to try to clarify it. Again the "radically laying their lives down" usually refers to the "culture war". If she meant it literally that lady has problems...She could have just meant that she wishes the kids were as passionate (in mind NOT action) about their beliefs.
also the lady who runs the camp, that becky fischer lady said "i never felt at any point that we were exploited"
In the movie it's actually not QUITE as creepy, the GWBush thingy. She starts by saying lets pray for him, but then if you watch what happens, it DEF looks creepy, I agree...that was part I was a little skeeved out by...It def looked like they were praying TO bush instead of for.
That's why I was fairly impressed with the documentary. It def had a bit of an agenda (all documentaries do) but I was happy to see that in such a controversial film, the focus of it was really OK with it.

I don't believe in God...or organized religions...but I've been impressed by couple of religious groups lately....
First the way the Quakers handled the school tragedy......I've always thought they were way right....now I see they believe in they're convictions and practice what they preach. Respect that.
Then last night....TV show on evangelicals that support protecting our planet...wow...I was impressed yet again. I smiled...and thought...you know the US is going to be okay....."It's okay"..."Its okaaaaayayay"
Course then they showed a clip of Pat Robertson idiotic ramblings....had to listen to my 06 Gorge boot to have the audience (me being among them) and eddie tell me its okay.
I went and saw the documentary and it was interesting. It is definitely much more on the charismatic end of the spectrum...there were some parts that were a little weird, but let me try to clarify something re: the "army" METAPHOR that is used in christian circles. No one in the movie is advocating violence toward a group of people. There is a culture warrior mentality (which usually does more harm than good) in some circles and they use phrases such as army of god, the sword, preparing for battle etc... as a description of the mental struggles and trying to keep certain things out of their lives b/c they see it as a huge battle b/c it's not easy. Ever hear of metaphors? that is what is going on. They are not advocating going out and destroying people etc... Just wanted to try to clear it up.
I don't know about the movie, but don't forget that the Army of God does advocate and has advocated the destruction of abortion clinics and workers.

When the Rapture comes.. can those of us that are left behind go swimming in their pools?
Sure thing.
All i really have is one of those cheap plastic things used for very small children. It has a small crack in it, but, hey, its all yours, pal.

But... I'm hoping to get Benny Hinn's or Robert Schueller's mansion... I like to jump off of the diving board.

i would, but i think he'll be busy checkin you for tan lines in the deep end, buddy.
Seriously, that shit is completely uncalled for. Although i must say its not a surprise on a board heavily populated with self-described genii who learn everything they know about Christianity from YOUTUBE videos.

Well... I've been told... by Christians... that Christians are forgiven and go to Heaven. That is why most of the convicts in America's prisons find Jesus there. And since we are not to question Christian's faith... who are we to question death row inmate's faith?
In the odd twist of religion... Hitler, a devout Catholic... which is a Christian, right?.... is forgiven by accepting Christ as his saviour... yet, the 6 million Jews that died in the camps like Auschwitz and Buchanwald lay in the lake of eternal fire.
...
So, according to Christians... Heaven consists of Christians... including Hitler and the convicts we executed that had found Jesus... the Jews and the rest of us get your abandoned swimming pools and cars. Then, we die and go to Hell.
...
That's why I'm confused.
Although I am expecting some sort of re-cycled spun rebuttal to explain why the convicts and Hitler are tossed in with the rest of us scum because i am not the first person to wonder this.
