Babies sleep on and off all day. I grew up with 4 siblings--trust me on this one. Is that all you people have on this lady? She's not "attending to her motherly duties"? Everyone knows the real sexists are on the left.
I just asked a question....
I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one wondering the same...yes, I understand children happen to have different sleeping schedules...I was simply wondering if a large and loud venue was the best place for a child his age...she and her family can do as the please, and I can asked questions...
Oddly enough, I didn't see any other 5 month old babies there...did you...?
oh for fucks sake people. what makes you think the baby didnt wakw up screaming previously and thats why the little tyke is with his family? which is where all babies should be whenever possible. babies dont care what time it is. they wake when they wake and they sleep when theyre tired. not everything sarah palin does is cause for a grand inquisition and witch burning. stop criticising the mother.
spoken like a true mother, thank you and thanks for putting such a ridiculous thread to rest.
As a father, well, I found that the best place for a 5 month old baby to sleep is at the tittie bar, during last call.
We can agree to disagree on this one:D
hey, you're just being a good dad...you wanted to keep your 5 month old with you, and for all I know, you're little one's sleeping schedule may be weird...
I'm serious...personally, that kid should be in bed..
am I wrong...?
edit: this question was asked at 10:27pm eastern time while watch the RNC...
Yes you are wrong...the kid is asleep in the arms of someone.
Are you a parent?
What about Obama's girls?
Oh, and my 13 month old daughter went to bed at 9:30 PM last night central time...it fluctuates between 8:30-10 PM depending on her energy level, she gets to dictate that. Going to attack me now?
hey, you're just being a good dad...you wanted to keep your 5 month old with you, and for all I know, you're little one's sleeping schedule may be weird...
Both my boys were sleeping through the night ( 9:30 PM/10:00 PM -6:00/6:30 AM ) by their third month.
I made sure to create an environment where between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM every night, I would prepare them for bed (bathing, bottle feeding, diaper change), turn the down the lights, play soft classical music, talk to them in a soft comforting voice, sing songs to them and then they would fall asleep usually by 10:00 PM.
On rare occassion they would take a little longer.
Oh, well as a mother I can tell you that the best place for a 5 month old baby to sleep is in a loud convention hall.
Don't criticize her on something you know nothing about. It's sexist.
That's a load of crap, seriously. A baby is much more moveable and able to sleep in different circumstances than, say, a five year old at the same time in Denver a few days ago
Seriously, people, don't we have enough to criticize about this woman to leave the fucking mother bullshit alone?
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

no one is attacking anyone...I was just asking a question...jeesh...
as for Obama's girls, I think they are older than 5 months...I'm pretty sure about that...
I still wonder, if this was the best environment for a 5 month old, why was this 5 month old the only baby in the crowd...
if makes me a bad person for wondering about this, then so be it...I do know that children can get overstimulated...and to be honest, I'm worried about the kid and could care less if anyone is offended by my asking this question...

So at what age does sleep stop mattering then? Jeesh.
It was a TERRIFIC environment for the 5 month old because he was with his family.
It doesn't make you a bad person, just really wrong on this. You're worried about the kid? C'mon, please. Did he look overstimulated to you? Guess what a baby does if they are overstimulated or not happy...they CRY, very loud. And then you take them somewhere else and calm them down and try to make them happy if you can, but you can't always do that. Because, they also cry for seemingly no reason.
Anyhow, I'm sorry if I'm coming across harsh, but you post really pissed me off. I've had my daughter out at a basketball game till past 10 PM when she was 6month and 9 months old...she slept some at the game when she was tired, and she still a happy healthy baby.

Whoa... hold on. I was just having a little fun. Hence the " "
There is plenty to criticize, and I don't think anyone in this thread is relying on this to make a case against her.
I do feel she is using her family to her advantage, and I don't agree with that. But I recognize that it's part of the game.

How? By having them at the convention? She has done no different then anyone else. If they weren't there, imagine the criticism she woudl receive...
"Where are her children", "What kind of mom leaves her kid for a speech"...a lot of sexist bullshit really.
I know many hated Rudy's speech, but I would thin kthat 1 thing we can all agree on, when people are attacking Palin saying with 5 kids she doesn't have th eitme to be VP...when is the last time they asked that of a male candidate? That is insulting. It's akin to attacking Hillary and her pantsuits...it's an argument based solely in sexism.
really, I was just asking...and as I said, I would not have my child in such an environment...again, that's just me...
Ok, I would have my child there so long as she was behaving and not upset...if she was, I'd remove her from the environment. Her mom and I let her help dictate how much she can handle, trying not to be over-protective. Is it the right way? Who knows...
Surely those that advocate women having the right to choose whether they give birth to a child or not believe women have the right to choose how they raise their kids as well.
What about the parents here who waste a significant amount of time on some band's message board instead of doing something productive for their kid/family..someone should start a thread about that ..wow..
'I want to hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I'm very, very frightening
and I'll overdo it'
Threads like this distract from the numerous issues that should be raised about Palin, and give credence to the right when complaining about how she is being treated.
I have a seven month old son, and if my wife was nominated as the vice president of the united states, then I would want my son with me.
I am a left leaning moderate, but these sort of threads bother me... Who are we to say how someone should arrange their babies sleep schedule? The left complain about the religious right trying to tell them how to live, then threads like this pop up telling others how to live.

I'm so ashamed. Next thing you know, she'll be a pregnant teen.

I don't think there is anything wrong with having them there. It would have been weird if they weren't. I don't even think it's wrong to have the baby there.
I do think the mccain campaign is relying a lot on the "Look, she's a MOMMY! You can relate to her!!!" That, I think, is cheap. It may describe one aspect of who she is, but it's not a very important part. I don't think it speaks to her ability to help lead a nation. (And yes, I know both sides do this...I just don't like the fact that it's part of the political discussion.)

Ok, let me put it this way. I think "hockey moms" (whatever that means) can be president or vice president. I think it is perfectly understandable that a man or a woman will want their children by their side on an extraordinary night. I do think she has the right to define herself as a mother without being deluged with sexist comments and criticism of her parenting skills.
I hope to god she is not elected, I hope women remain in control of their bodies and teenagers across the country have the right to know about sexuality without putting up wish bullshit shame and bigotry. I think Brain of J.Lo.'s question about privacy in a different thread was a very legitimate one. I don't actually think Palin's election would be a real victory for women, but I do think NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING is to be gained by questioning bedtime, linking a mother's involvement in politics to a girl's pregnancy, or asserting that Palin is irresponsible in pursuing a political career as a mother of five.
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.
Did anyone else feel a little dirty about her bringing up the fact that her son is "special needs"? It just seemed like such sleazy pandering basically using that issue to reach out to other special needs parents.

I tend to agree, but it seems like she and McCain camp is trying to have it both ways. They have no problems bringing up the fact that she is a mother, wants to connect with other mothers, etc etc etc., but then when question rise about how her role as a mother of a large family (and an infant) will fit into the requirements of the VP job, they cry foul.
