    Try this:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/auvid/

Or if you want a full-scale audio editing program you can use this:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/

You can load an MP3 into Audacity and do a "Save As..." to Wav.

You probably know this, but to be clear, going MP3 to Wav will do nothing to restore fidelity or make it sound better. It will just make it much bigger.

  • Why are you making WAV's of MP3's?

Winamp does this. I believe the plug-in is called "disc writer".

once its encoded to mp3, going back to .wav is a no no, results in poopy quality. go find the flac files instead.
    I miss you hippiemom.

Absolutely true. But at the very least there is software to burn mp3 direct to CD. There's no need to use wav. :(

on any burning program i have seen you just burn the mp3's as an audio disc and you can play them in any cd player. now if you burn them as a data disc you have to have a player that plays mp3's. which i love b.c you can fit multi albums on one. great for getting a couple of boots on one disc.

well...technically, those programs in fact convert to wav before burning, you just don't see it.

Right, there is no reason at all to pre-convert and save any bastard format as a wav when it fact it is mp3 quality. Let Nero do its thing and create your audio CD, but only the mp3 file remains.

Sorry if I missed this or misunderstood, but how exactly do you use the plug-in in WinAmp to convert mp3s to WAV? I sympathize with the original poster cause I tend to make regular CDs for working out and for family members/friends. Nero does convert the mp3s to WAV during the burning process; HOWEVER, using a the newer version of Nero, I've found that even when burning at the slowest speed, all of the songs fucking skip horribly. This pisses me off to no end.

Yes it is a major pain in the ass to convert the mp3s to WAVs manually before burning, but it's kind of my only resort now and I can't find a way to do it effectively....and free of course. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Options -> Preferences -> Output -> Select the "Disk Writer" option -> Click on Configure to select where the files will be saved

Then you double click on the file you want to convert in your Winamp playlist, just like you would if you were playing it. Instead of playing it, it will convert it. Hope that helps! Good luck!

You're a life saver dude. I really appreciate the info because the newer version of Nero has been pissing me off for a while now. Thanks!!!
