how tragic. ive been to more flyers/sixers/phantoms/kixx games/circuses/ice shows than I can count. Granted many of them were when I was wayyy younger (circuses and ice shows) but i still love the place.

Thanksfully I got to see PJ play there in 03, lets hope for another show to send it off right.

So there's a chance that it will remain open till early '09, right?? There should still be time to get one last rippin' PJ show there!! C'mon boys, do it before they implode it!
I met my wife here...you can too! Don't lose hope!

Last games would probably be spring of 09... and hopefully some time for concerts after that until early or late fall (I hope).

Very sad to see it go. I saw my first concert there back in the day (Ozzy) and had lots of very fond memories over the years. I was there last summer for a show and it felt like visiting an old friend...

From what I'm hearing the Phantoms may move to Atlantic City.

Honestly, I didn't care much that the Vet got torn down. But I am really sad about the Spectrum. Such a great venue over the years and have seen so many events there. Here's hoping some great acts come down the road to paly it one last time before it goes.

I'll miss all the stuff at the spectrum 50 something dead shows, Hockey games, Flyers or Phantoms tractor pulls, wwf rasslin etc. etc. But I won't miss the bathrooms in the basement and mob scene on the concourse to get a brew. Saw the Foos in Feb. had a great time but I like the new venues. I was at Dc verizion center and was alot like spectrum With all the good stuff. I will love one more super kick ass rock and roll show there though. Later Yostarama

well, not surprising but certainly disappointing, i was hoping against hope that the decision would be reversed but, apparently not, unreal place to see a concert and i can only hope that some bands have enough time to come through and send it out properly
9/1/2000 - E-Centre, Camden, 'Sometimes' started and I was hooked...

Yeah, that's what I hear too. I think it will really affect their attendance alot. It would be better if there was some place closer to the NE Philly area or even in South Jersey but the Flyer's Skate Zones don't have enough seating to accomadate a team and neither does the Penn rink. So looks like minor league hockey will move from the Philly area.

And I think that the Spectrum management will do all they can to secure a few headliners to close the place down in style... Springsteen and Bon Jovi (yeah everyone roll their eyes) come to mind first along with PJ, McCartney (who was supposed to be touring at some point in the next year or so), Billy Joel, etc.

I figure Bon Jovi, the Boss and Billy Joey are givens considering Bon Jovi has an office there and the Boss and Billy Joel have banners in the arena. I'm really hoping for PJ but not sure if they will be hitting the road next year. It's time for the Philly people to get a letter campaign to the Ten Club going. ;)

I just remember how much Ed enjoyed playing the Spectrum in 2003. I just can't picture him not at least trying to get another show in there before it's gone. That was still the best crowd I've ever been a part of out of 40 plus PJ shows.

Sounds like a good idea... but let's not limit it to Philly people. Let's get a good old fashion post card mailing to the 10C going :D

03 was amazing, between the show, the crowd, and everything that was going on in my life at the time... it was just a perfect moment for me that I'll never forget.

It's time for the Spectrum to come down unfortunately. It is an outdated facility. It's had an amazing run and I'll have incredible memories of PJ 4/28/03, Springstreen, Billy Joel, Elton John, etc. and Flyers games. One more Pearl Jam show would be insane (but keep out the out of towners i say: joking, sort of) though. Would love to see it. Man if those walls could talk in that old arena.

the release says “It is our hope and intent to bring back many of the musical acts and entertainers who have made the Spectrum ‘America’s Showplace.’”

so I think its a given that many acts will be paying their respects. How great would it be for a U2 or a Pearl Jam residency there!

I'm not from philly but I attended many flyer games at the Spectrum. I too will miss the Spectrum. It reminded me a bit of Chicago Stadium. It was small, cramped, wierd sightlines, but most of all intimate. It is one of the last great 70 style arenas. The other being Allstate Arena in Rosemont. The skyboxes still reaked with cigar/smoke (couches mainly). The building acoustics were bult for concerts. It amplified the sound instead of stadiums today which require you to buy better amplifiers and speakers. Everything looks like a mall today.

The spectrum will always have a special place in my heart. It was the 1st sporting venue i ever walked into. Flyers verse calgry flames and it was a bench clearing brawl. I believe i was like 5 or 6 back then. The Vet meant alot to me but the spectrum will always mean just a little bit more. Pearl Jam please please rock the roof off the spectrum 1 more time.

The thing they sell us is that the new venue will be 'State-of-the-Art'... which really means 'Ticket prices you will not be able to afford unless you want to sit in the last row in the corner... and still pay through the nose for it'.
They don't understand that when the building comes down... so does all of the history that was there. Sure, new history will be created at the new venue... but, you lose all of those 'Led Zeppelin was here' history.

What new venue??? There won't be a new venue.. I mean possibly a small theater inside the entertainment area but definitely not a venue to replace the Spectrum.

I grew up in the Spectrum and saw so many great bands play there.

Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Rush, The Cars, Journey, Blue Oyster Cult, Yes, Peter Gabriel, Aerosmith, Guns N Roses, Billy Joel, David Bowie, AC/DC, Sting, John Cougar Mellencamp, R.E.M., U2, Bruce Springsteen- by himself, with the E Street Band, and with his other band, and Pearl Jam.

When I walked inside of the venue for the Pearl Jam show in '03 it was like traveling back in time. It was awesome. That show will always remain very special to me, one of my favorites. It had a vibe better than any other PJ show I've ever been to, including MSG and Boston. They were given a reception like Springsteen receives. It was amazing inside that place that night.

I have so many memories linked to that place. I'll really miss it.

The Wachovia Centre? Where ever the Sixers and Flyers play. That may become the arena that'll hold concerts... and it will suck (i.e. the L.A. Forum vs. Staples Centre in Los Angeles).

The majority of concerts have been held there or Camden since they were built because they have more capacity then the Spectrum so that wouldn't be a change to the current situation at all.

saw Foo Fighters there in February. I agree, as soon as I walked in the building, it took me back. Saw many concerts/events there, but haven't been in awhile. The sound in that place was amazing. It's dirty & old, but what a show! Incredible - I'm going to miss it , hope PJ plays there before it goes (maybe a few shows so tickets are readily available) Maybe a 10c show? I know, that is unfair, but join 10c - it won't kill you, I pay my membership fees for those kind of opportunities!

goosebumps reading this - i remember this like yesterday. greatest playoff series i've ever seen. freakin JJ Daigneault - what a shot, lower right corner. Grant Fuhr lookiing back baffled as the puck goes past him. Flyers take one of the greatest teams ever to a game 7.
