    per MSN.com:

Obama is the first out of the gate to issue a statement on Edwards' exit. "John Edwards has spent a lifetime fighting to give voice to the voiceless and hope to the struggling, even when it wasn't popular to do or covered in the news. At a time when our politics is too focused on who's up and who's down, he made a nation focus again on who matters - the New Orleans child without a home, the West Virginia miner without a job, the families who live in that other America that is not seen or heard or talked about by our leaders in Washington."

Obama added, "John and Elizabeth Edwards have always believed deeply that we can change this - that two Americans can become one, and that our country can rally around this common purpose. So while his campaign may end today, the cause of their lives endures for all of us who still believe that we can achieve that dream of one America."
"Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States, Barack Obama."

"Obama's main opponent in this election on November 4th (was) not John McCain, it (was) ignorance."~Michael Moore

Interesting development, but not unexpected. I know in the very short term this will help Hillary. The analysts were saying that Edwards was pulling votes from Hillary in South Carolina. So again, in the short term, it sounds like a lot of his votes will go to Clinton. BUT if he comes out with an Obama endorsement before super tuesday, all of that could change. I haven't heard much about which way he's leaning, though.

On another note, I'm glad he's gone. For me he's the most detestable of all of the candidates. A complete fraud and a shyster, ambulance chasing lawyer. Ran a completely disingenuous campaign that sounded good, but had no basis in his actual beliefs or previous votes or actions. Good riddance.

I kind of agree. I always felt like I needed to take a shower after hearing him talk.

i think edwards will come out in support of obama before super tuesday. i believe that he is dropping out before tuesday's primary so as to not siphon off votes from barack, whom edwards favors over hillary as the dem candidate of choice, and the onle most likely (other than himself) to beat a republican.

The guy sued doctors for a living. He is going to wait until after Super Tuesday and see who has the momentum and delegates for him to get a cabinet position.

If for no other reason, I hope he did this to ensure a Dem winning it all, rather than tying up votes. Overall, I'm really disappointed though.

His withdrawl does nothing to ensure a democrat winning it all. He can help their chances by turning his supporters on to Barack Obama and away from cunton, but, as of yet, he hasn't done that. i don't think he will. He's waiting until after super tuesday and then will expose himself as an opprotunist.
