Well, if you look at it from the 'Better Him than me', perspective... it's good.
But, I believe the greater good in all of this is that... well, maybe we should take the teachings of Jesus and live our lives by them. Not as some sort of condition in return for a reward... but, just because. To me... that whole 'Believe in Me and I will take on all of your sins' thing... well, it just don't seem fair. I mean, why should a guy like Hitler get go to Heaven for believing in Jesus... and the 6 million Jews that he is responsible for go to Hell for not believing? Seems like if Jesus hasa say in the matter... well, he'd give those Jews a break.
I don't know. I guess that's why I don't go to church anymore. But, that won't stop me from wishing everyone a Happy Easter.
As Vonnegut said many times - "If what Jesus taught was good, what difference does it make whether or not he was a God?"

Who could argue with that? I'm certainly not a Christian but if we need guidelines on how to live a good life and how to treat others, Jesus might still be the answer.

I think it has to due with the people who put him to death. I think the idea behind it was, it's a good thing he's being punished, hence good friday. Well, that's what they told us in grade school.

what kind of psychotic fucking grade school did you go to?

Because he claimed to be God. And if he wasn't, that makes him crazy. Which kind of nullifies all the other stuff.

There's a bum on the corner who sells newspapers and claims to be God. I wouldn't take any moral guidance from him, either.

    I agree....
Today is the day a relegions savior, the son of God, was tortured and then murdered. Kinda strange to call it "Good Friday".

Horribly Terrible Most Awful Friday seems more fitting.

but if none of that happened ... there would be no Christian religion ... see how that works?

The "good" was added in retrospect.

Sort of like how your favorite sports team endures a god-awful season, but in doing so earns the No.1 draft pick in next year's draft ... and he turns out to be a once-in-a-generation type player ... and he leads your team to umpteen titles. But you never would have had him had you not sucked balls that one year, which was bad at the time, but now turned out to be good for the franchise.

    yeah, sort of like that.
