I agree too, but the thread isn't "what religion has the nicest people?" it's which ones do you think are absolutely stupid for the fundamentals they teach, etc.

I know lots of great people from all different religions, Christians, Jews, Muslims, Mormon, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc...
While all being crazy in their own way some just make me stop and say "WOW, Are you kidding me?!?!"

i think your missing the concept. If the religion or religious individual's greater message and life statement is to do good. who cares about anything else, and it certaintly shouldn't be portrayed as ''stupid''. re-evaluate your motivations :)

Well, I think you're missing MY point.
Aside from a select few extremely radial groups, most religions promote living a good honest life which includes being nice to your neighbors, etc. and in the long term you will be rewarded in some way.
"Who cares about anything else" Well, I do and that is why this thread exists. I think that having faith is a wonderful thing, but some institutions beliefs and how they came to be I happen to find a little strange.
For example...the whole Joseph Smith nonsense, the cult-like following of Witnesses, etc. Yeah, both religions have some wonderful people in them and once again...THAT IS NOT THE POINT OF THIS THREAD. It is some of the crazy stories and beliefs they have.

The thing i have against religion... all religion... is the way it takes hope and faith and warps it into duty and service. Believe this or suffer those consequences... does any religious person really believe that God places conditions on His love?
I believe in hope and faith... as human traits. Hope and faith are not the products of religion... that is, religion does not give us hope and faith... God did that.

  • Scientology sounds pretty crazy to me.....a man created this religion. He was a science fiction writer, and decided to create a religion, and now many people follow this system of beliefs that he just pulled out of the air.

I remember reading somewhere that good ol L. Ron made a bet with Robert Heinlien(another popular sci-fi author) that he could create a religion and system of beliefs that people would follow for years. That if you have all the right ingredients, people will follow anything. So he wrote what came to be Dianetics. Which had its followers, but eventually failed. He went back, tweaked the system, added a little mythology, and blammo! Scientology.
So the whole thing was the product of some (probably drunken) bet.

  • c'mon...unless you were alive when "jesus walked" then you honestly don't know if the guy even existed, do you?

well actually yes i do....besides the various gospels (the four plus others like thomas and so on) plus objective sources such as the historian jospheus. its historical FACT that jesus existed. now whether he was was God or a normal man or some crazy lunatic is the question. but to question his existence....

    So what are we becoming?

please do not sum a people up based on a few.. its ignorant and so is your post..do some research and visit salt lake city. than come back and post on mormons

At no point did I sum mormons up. In fact, I even paid lip service to the notion of coincidence. Reread my posts, think it about it a little bit more, and then possibly from now on think twice before you attempt to define the meaning of ignorance.

It is a historical fact that he did live.
Proving that he's the son of god won't be any legitmate history book though. That you just "got to believe".

yes...in some weird twisted reality... i am the ignorant one :)
  • they all sound pretty crazy to me. the only difference is we are much more familiar with some than others. christianity doesn't seem so weird to most b/c it's what we know. but really, it's just as crazy as all of them.
  • all religions seem equally out there to me, they are all based on supernatural beliefs in some sort of creator or supreme being. whether it's the navajo creation belief, or jesus christ, i don't see much difference.

    Well said! I totally agree!
