This thing was in my backyard. For all I know, it floated in from South Africa, or came via a bananna load.

This handsome fellow was in my window staring at me with all 8 eyes...lol
He is a Daring Jumping Spider...and they do jump...pretty well.
    shamrockspider01.jpg
This Shamrock spider was crawling on/in my tent when I was camping.
    groundmantid01.jpg
And this guy, although not a spider was on a lawn chair on my porch, and he was ready to fight. He is a Obscure Ground Mantid.
And yes I have the national audubon societies field guide to insects and spiders...lol
I figure I might as well know what they are if they're going to creep me out.

Ahhh...the lovely Golden Garden Spider. Very beneficial for your garden. Bite can hurt about as bad as a bee sting.

    Sorry :o
Can't tell you what your spider is, since I live on a completely different continent, and my field guide is for north america. I live in Texas, you wouldn't want to come here anyways...lol...j/k
There are a few other spiders here that are creepy as well, that I haven't yet been able to take pictures of.
And some realy nasty looking bees and wasps. One of which is the velvet ant, it's actually a bee, that scurries across the ground like an ant. And every color of dragonfly there is, the whole rainbow. I could talk about insects and animals for hours...lol... as you can see...
And i'm a female, sorry the name can be decieving.

Oh really, so it's not actually poisonous then? That's good, cos I ran when I saw it. I asked one of the guides if she knew what it was and she wasn't sure.

Deadlee, sorry about the mix up :o I was planning on going to Texas for a while next year as part of my trip of the US... I'm not so sure now :o

OMG that black thing is disgusting! Deadlee can you help me out with your book? I'm trying to find out about these tiny, tiny, little red spiders that we have here in Oz. So far all my Googling has come to nothing. Is there anything about them in your book? They are bright red all over and smaller than a pin head. They're really quite cute and don't seem to be poisonous.
    NOPE!!!

Sorry I wish I could help you to figure out what those tiny red spiders are, but I only have the field guide for north america. I know there's book and guides for every continent.
The black spider I took a picture of is only about an inch or so big, I zoomed in on him.

Hey! How did you know? They are constantly running about like ants and they never sit still. So bloodsuckers, you say. And you have them in Cavan? WOW! Do you know anything else about them?

Thanks anyway Deadlee, looks like Heineken Helen might be onto something. As for your 1 inch friend, I don't think knowing that he is actually smaller than he appears is calming in anyway. That is one ugly, scary mo fo!!
