Philly/Camden Hotels:

Where would be a good place to stay?

I am 755 sure I am actually going to the 2 MSG shows instead of Camden, but just in case, where are good places to stay?

Good neighborhoods, close to touristy places, etc.

Thanks!

We stayed downtown at the Club Quarters in '06. Hyatt Penn's Landing would be nice but expensive.

  • Definitely stay in Philly over Camden, but don't drive over the bridge, just take the ferry!! I think it's $5 round-trip. Well worth it.
Priceline is good place if you stick to the Center City locale. I've never tried the other site mentioned, but my recent experience with Priceline was great. $67/night @ Hilton Garden Inn, which is right in Chinatown and close to the major subway lines. Normally over $200/night.

We stayed at club quaters in 2006 for the Camden shows as well, along with 6 other 10C members that I knew, not to mention the ones I dont know, it was nice and not too far from the ferry to get to Camden - DO NOT STAY IN CAMDEN and get out immediately after the show.

    Which one is center City?

    Here is what Priceline lists:

Philidelphia Airport (PHL) - Stadium Area
    Plymouth Meeting Norristown
    Cherry Hill Vicinity
    Main Line
    Philadelphia Northeast Suburbs
    Willow Grove
    Gloucester - Deptford Area

This is what I see listed:

    Cherry Hill - Mount Laurel
    City Line
    Downtown Philadelphia
    Gloucester - Runnemede - Deptford
    Philadelphia Airport (PHL)
    Trevose - Bensalem
    University Area

    Downtown would be city center.

We stayed in a hotel right by the Ben Franklin Bridge on the PA side, it was cheap, maybe $100. Could hear the traffic but I was tired when I went to bed so no problems for me! The ferry is the way to go for sure. It's only like a 10 minute walk and it was over run w/PJ fans.
Going back takes a little time, there is usually a line. Find something to do or hang in the venue for about 1/2 an hour.
Take a half a day and check out the Aquarium. It's a good one!
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!

like everyone else has said - do NOT stay in Camden. I will never forget the words of the police offer when we asked "what is the best way back to philly - a cab or the subway?" and he responded "whatever gets you off the streets the fastest."

coming form a cop, I believe that says it all.

I have stayed at the Loews in Philly - nice place, but not cheap.

I've stayed at the Loews twice this year already. It's about $300 per night. You will however get the most incredible view of Philadelphia.

    The Sofitel is nice too.

  • Definitely stay in Center City Philly. You can take the train or ferry to Camden. It'll cost a little more to be in Center City but that's your best bet as far as things to do. You can walk pretty much anywhere. I'm sure you can go to citysearch.com (if that hasn't already been mentioned) for a list of places with reviews.

So, center City is pretty much "downtown"?

Center City is definitely the downtown. Other areas are Penn's Landing/Columbus Blvd area ( CB used to be Delaware Ave.) which has several hotels in the area ; Society Hill, a couple blocks from Penns Landing ( Society Hill Sheraton) ; and , for someone on a tight budget , The Bank St. Hostel. As for University Area, that's the area from roughly 32nd and or 33rd , Drexel and Penn respectively. Market St. cuts through the area . Market is a main east- west street. Last, there are many hotels near Broad St. ( Broad = 14th Street for those seeking frame of reference east to the ferry or over the bridge to shit city.).

are you getting hotel for 2 shows or 1 ??
    Some die just to live
  • The area around the venue looks bad but it's actually the safest part of Camden (not saying much, but still). Just whatever you do when you come here, do NOT go on the other side of the Ben Franlin Bridge. Over there is like a 3rd world country and that's not exaggerated. The people over there have zero respect for human life.
Okay... seatbelts. Just put the little thing into the big thing and... I tell ya what. If you don't know how to fasten your seatbelt, just raise your hand and I'll have Tommy Boy here come back there and hit you in the head with a tack hammer because you're a RETARD.

What is your budget? There are some awesome places to stay, eat, visit, drink in Philly.
  • Again, I say, Priceline. Don't worry about price when you go through them. Just pick Downtown, 3-star, and you're good. Give a price of $70. Any hotel you end up with from those choices will be good enough.

Yep, you may. The best cheesesteak I've had in a long time was at John's Roast Pork on Snyder Ave just off Delaware Ave. Only problem is it's only open from 7 am to 3 pm. Then again most of the best sandwich places in South Philly have similar hours.

hehe, I figured Id start a war with that one. Fear not, though. If I DO end up going to Philly, I will be experiencing more than one. :)

Also, I thought I remembered someone talking about some pretzel stand? Does this sound familiar, or am I completely making that one up?
