I should mention do not stay at The Carter Hotel (or is it Hotel Carter?). The ONLY thing going for it is its location, (around 38th/41st not too far from Broadway I vaguely remember) but it really is awful. I'd rather stay in a clean hostel than it. We got diverted there when the place we were supposed to stay had water problems and it is disgusting, seriously. We were there in early March a few years ago, and their windows wouldn't close. We slept in our clothes rather than have any contact with the bedspread, and skipped the shower. It had one bare lightbulb hanging from the ceiling, and a broken tv (like the plug-in wire was frayed). I'm not too picky, but this was below even my standards. Just a warning.

use priceline.com, you can get a 3 or 4 star hotel for around $100
i've stayed at the W hotel (one of the best hotels in NYC) for less than a hundred per night using priceline
Dude...
The two of us have posted this kind of info like 7 times collectively and people seem to not want to listen or believe us.
Silly, silly Pearl Jam fans.
PJ 2003 I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria for $100 night while others paid $185/night for CRAP. 2 years later I stayed at The Hilton Times Square...NYE week for $115. In SF I did the W for $100 and The Marriott for $125.
btw......if you want to hostel and go REALLY CHEAP...This site has reviews for all these hostels.
I have read one way to check for them is to look around the base of the mattress under the sheet - if you see little spots, that could mean those bugs are present.
Schmoff and GVTFLYGRL, have you guys gotten hotels for this tour yet using priceline for the type of prices you list? (Or are you going to msg?)

you have to use the "name your price" option, thats how you save money using priceline, not just as some hotel search engine
Agreed. Priceline is definitely the best way to go to save money and avoid staying in a dump like Hotel Pennyslvania or the likes. If you haven't used priceline before, go to this site for tips on how to bid smartly, as well as lists of potential hotels in each zone and current winning bids: http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showforum=3&
Also, don't worry too much about being right across from the Garden. With transportation options so plentiful, it's not a big deal to stay a little bit further away, particularly if you end up close to the subway.
Another budget option is to do an apartment rental or b&b. There are usually lots of listings on craigslist.
