You need to understand the mindset of advanced-level white people in order for you to understand the reaction of advanced-level white people. Advanced-level white people only get offended on the behalf of others, not on behalf of their own kind. By making self-deprecating remarks on their own kind, while defending the offense on others, makes them feel open-minded, tolerant, & diverse.

    It's not hurting anyone...

I'm guess Your Sister, Your Mother, Your Wife, Your Girlfriend, Daughter, whatever should just continue to accept this sort of behaviour from us men.

They should just get used to it right?

    Do you agree?

    Cause I don't.

Maybe it's because My Wife and I got a chance to have a really cool conversation with Liam, EJ, and their tour manager Sam for a little while before the show...They're all really cool people; especially EJ...It was a great conversation, and something I won't soon forget.

Kind of felt like a friend was getting insulted up there.

    But
Maybe I'm just being to sensitive...

    Sorry.

You must pass a PJ IQ test in order to obtain a ticket. Most true PJ fans are intelligent, classy, polite, and respectful towards men and women. This dude would have failed the test and been denied entrance...
It's fair and it guarantees that REAL fans get in.

Thanks for that. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have got in based on something like that and Eddie and PJ wouldn't have a fan that just moved from casual to now completely into them and anxiously waiting to see a PJ show in the future. When I think of all the fun I had over two preparties, shows etc. I resent that you would enthusiastically deny that for me.

Stellar idea though, keep only the fans you have, don't collect any new ones along the way.

    Dear Frat boy:

You're remarks to Miss Eliza Jane Barnes at Wednesday’s concert at Massey Hall put an embarrassing stain on an otherwise beautiful and memorable evening.

You are very lucky that the comments hurled from your crackly, pre-pubescent, and annoying voice did not make it to the stage or reach the ears of either Eliza Jane Barnes or Eddie Vedder. As I’m sure if they had; you would have been rightfully thrown out of the building, or beaten within an inch of your shameful and pathetic life.

Your obvious lack of respect for the performers on stage, as well as your obvious lack of respect for women in general is an embarrassment to not only Toronto audiences, but Pearl Jam faithful as well.

You Sir are the poorest representation that the Human Race has to offer. You feed from the toilet like a dog and you are the very epitome of human swine.

May you live the rest of your days alone with your small pecker and a blistered hand.

May you never know the grace of a Female’s love.

I hope for the sake of all humanity, that you did the world a favor Wednesday evening and choked on your own vomit.

Every breath taken away from you is gift to us all.

    Gonzo.
The fact that this eats away at you enough to make a thread, and your absolute judgment and damning, is far more offensive than shouting "I wanna bang you" from someone who was more than likely intoxicated. Let's all pray for the genocide of all people who shout random things which in turn offend the far-too-sensitive. Let it go. I hope you didn't lose sleep.

Nobody's worked up - its a simple discussion. The point being made by some is that guy's comment was seriously disrespectful to a woman. Ed would not speak to a woman like that I'm pretty sure. (Would you like someone to say it to your mother or sister?) The popsicle thing was quite different - another band's sound is pretty much fair game. Its not so much the language being used, but the way it was used and who it was directed to.

Hey, I'm not trying to encourage it, it's a loutish comment and is as stupid as some women who get their breasts out at concerts. But hoping that they choke on their own vomit and die is just over reacting.

It's dumb, it's stupid but welcome to every Pearl Jam concert since about...1991?

If somebody said it to my mother or sister or whatever, I'd hope that they would have the sense to ignore it and not give them the time of day. I'm sure EJ is intelligent enough to do the same, and is not in any need of fans 'protecting' her reputation.

Yeah, I'd say that's just a bit of over reacting.

It's not cool, but there's always going to be some drunk asshole yelling stupid shit. That's just how it is. That doesn't necessarily mean that the guy needs to die. Jeeez.

Ohh...I see your a reader of "White People Like"

That's good. Because I'm not offended now.

You should know that the blow has less impact when it's an insult based on some loose regurgitation of someone elses thoughts and work.

Perhaps one of the biggest faults of "White People" is their tendency to celebrate their ignorance and shortcomings.

It's doing the world a boat load of good these days isn't it?

    No he wasn't was he.
It's one of his many faults and amoung many other stupid things Hunter did throughout his life.

Just because I'm a fan and I admire the mans writing.
Doesn't mean I have to emulate or justify his actions.

If it was "I wanna bang you", that's what you're upset about? Jesus. I hope that wasn't it because I don't know how you can function in life if a comment like this bothered you and has festered for this long to go as far to post about it.

Agree, everybody is getting way too sensitive. It's a douche bag thing to say, but an equal douche bag would be offended by it. If I got as easily offended as some of the people on this board, I would have stopped listing to this band 15 years ago. Think of all of the stupid shit that Eddie says. Just shrug it off and move on.

  • It is a very good example of a guy being a fucking toolbox, what is funny and pathetic is that he probably did think it a compliment but almost no female would ever feel complimented by that. I think most women have experienced some kind of objectifying comment at some point in their lives and it feels humiliating.
I seriously don't understand why Ed/Pearl Jam has so many toolbox meathead fans. Many of Ed's lyrics have a gender bender slant on them and it just doesn't seem like frat boy material...but I know that is bringing my bias and stereotyping to this type of guy so I try to rein it in.

I've heard waaaaaaaay worse shit yelled at females during concerts. This is pretty tame.

Agree 100%. I don't care for the yelling (in general) at the solo shows - they are annoying. But this particular comment is not that bad at all.

No I most certainly never wished death upon him...Hunter's issues had alot to do with infidelity; especially with his first wife Sandy. He was a bit of a jackass no doubt...

I guess it's more in fact that this horrific behaviour continues to perpetuate itself over and over and over again generation to generation.

It's like racisim...It just never goes away.

You'd think that the mistakes of Hunter's generation would be learned and slowly dissolved...

But now 2 generations later and we're still doing and saying the same stupid shit.

amen! This thread is so over kill. How about the exchange between ed and the fan in hershey during the famous mosquito bite incident? I wanna bang you is kids stuff compared to that.
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...

Well, I guess you the better man then, good sir. I say live and let live. In every fucking aspect of that phrase. The dramatics of the word "horrific" I don't think are needed here.
