Finsbury's Music

FinsburyParkCarrotsFinsburyParkCarrots Seattle, WA Posts: 12,223
I'm not the spammin' kind, but I just uploaded one of my songs onto My Space, which I joined especially for the purposes of this thread.

The song you should hear- if it plays properly - is "Faith in Blame", featuring me singing and playing solo, back in 1999. It's rough around the edges but I hope you enjoy it. I might put some more stuff up on that site.

Cheers,
Richard

And the url is:

http://www.myspace.com/crinnish

Hope that works.

I just added another song, "Westgate To The Grey." :)
  • I can never listen to all the wonderful stuff people post on here! :( Sucks to only have access at work!

Do you have a "sound", Fins? I'd at least like to know a bit about what I don't have the pleasure to hear. :)

I loved it...did you write that song or is it a cover?? I signed up for a guitar class which starts in July....hearing your song put me in the mood to play....thanks

yes, Fins does have a sound.

That's really amazing that you can sing and write.

    Fins' sound according to me:
sort of like David Grey or Gray? Especially Flesh David Gray. (and it also sounds like a friend of mine who plays for pennies, if I mixed his with David Gray's I'd end up with Fins) That could be because it's with acoustic guitar, but Fins, you sing really well, and the song's good.

Those are my songs, yes. Thanks. :)

Er, as for guitar playing, the first song is tuned to CGDGAD with capo on the fourth fret, and the second song is in DADGAD tuning.

Ali, if you have your song on CD, get a CD ripper (see download.com), then join MySpace and you can upload your music onto it, and share it with us.

Must add though, those songs are pre-Gray heyday. (The "Grey" is Westgate To The Grey is the Earl Grey monument in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, btw.) But thanks for the compliments! I used to play a lot of electric stuff but it got a lot easier carting an acoustic or semi acoustic around for gigs, and that's pretty much how that demo came about. A mate of mine was an engineer in a studio and said, come in when I'm finished work and do a couple of songs. So there you go.

Anyway, I might add two more songs from the session later.

    And thanks once again.

Okay, I won't spam too much more. I just added a third song, "Ninnygo." It's in DADEAD tuning, with the capo on the er, I forget. Probably fourth fret again. ;)

I listened to the first song yesterday and I thought it was a good song. Your voice is pretty distinct, caustic I thought. I've tried listening to other peoples but my machine has always died; that must be a good programme. I liked the way you can listen and shoot over to the art wall or read other threads at the same time. I'm a bit of a luddite but I was pleased with that!

Yes, there's a standalone player feature on that site. I only got the idea of using MySpace when sevensins posted his tunes here, via MySpace, yesterday. It's a great, user friendly way for people to share their music.

Edit: Song four, "Merchant Ivory", is up. Thanks.

i think this is truly a dumb question, but oh, well, does the amount of time it takes to "do its thing" for lack of the proper word vary from computer to computer? because it keeps coming in in little fragments, which is very postmodern and all, but I don't think it's supposed to sound like that. So am I not being patient enough? Plus the second time I tried it, I didn't even get the little screen thing that has the list. Now I've got the screen, but the fragments of sound . . . ?

not a dumb question; when I listen on my work computer it works, when I listen on my heap of crap it is like a stuttering, muttering, gibbering stop start string of nonsense, don't even get fragments of sound.

I'm not getting the sound at all for it today, but dyaogirl in Seattle is hearing it fine. I uploaded the files from CD to myspace and they stream it, so maybe they stream these files from different servers worldwide and how you hear it depends on where you are.

Ah, I think myspace has had techie "ish-shoes" today. Hopefully it'll stream fine later.

Hey Finns... waw man. Really, really, really good stuff there. Your voice and feel kinda reminds me of Tim Buckley (especially Ninnygo), guitar playing of Luka Bloom. Don't know if these are references at all...

ps: the fourth fret is a great place to put a capo on, isn't it?

Oh yes! I am hearing it!! Streaming with a purity of brilliance through my speakers having so much heart and so much talent. A magical and unbeatable combination with spirit, soul, and grace. Taking my breath away.

Everyone take a moment to listen to this you will fall in love as I have.

Thank you Finsbury for sharing this :)
'..... Ah! A perfect illustration of the poststructuralist paradox. Does the signifier "Merlot" correspond with the 'truth' of the bottle I polished off last night, or do we hold in our thoughts a different "signified" of bottle-of-Merlot-ness? Perhaps we're dreaming of the same bottle!" -FinsburyParkCarrots

Wow, thanks. Tim Buckley is just about my number one vocal idol. As for Luka Bloom, I like what I've heard of him, though I don't know him very well. I'm a great fan of his brother Christy Moore though. Could you recommend any Luka Bloom?
