i don't know much about camden, all i can tell you is thursday night was an unbelievable show. . .it was kinda a nightmare trying to get out of the parking lot after the show, but once we did it was pretty much smooth sailing

    I liked it!
And I really liked Vincents... good salad! And the ride from NYC was only 2.5 hours.

I hope the play it a million more times and I hope you decided to never go there again!

  • I don't really like the venue. imagine if they played the Mann.
also, getting out of Camden is a pain in the ass. The police always seem to block the way I want to go, making it take forever to get to the BF bridge.

I love this band and am so glad that I have the opportunity to see them. With that being said, I agree I hate going to Camden. It has nothing to do with the city itself, but more with trying to get out of the parking lots, the way the police detour everyone out on one or two streets....it is just a nightmare. I would love to see them at the Spectrum or Wachovia Center. I saw REM on Wednesday night and that was the first time I was at the Mann. I know it is a smaller venue, but would love to see them play there.

I think the point of this thread is to voice our opinion about how we think that these shows are special, and that they should just be moved across the river to avoid any avoidable situations occuring, AND to provide the fans with a more adequate environment for having a good time. If they played in sewer grate in Compton, CA , would I go? Sure......would I have fun? ....ehh

I pretty much hate all pavilion shows, because of the combination of drunk tailgating/lawn people, lousy seats on the sides (was Mike there Thursday? I couldn't see), and pain in the ass parking. Last night's DC show was miles more exciting and fun than Camden.

I prefer camden over any of the other venues in Philly. Id rather be outdoors than in an arena.
Ive never had a bad time there (knocks on wood)

I was just about to say ... the it-takes-forever-to-get-out-of-the-lot-and-onto-the-interstate thing is not unique to Camden.

All in all, I had two great experiences there last week.

I understand that. And I stated even in my fanview of Camden 1 how much I disliked the city/venue, BUT the show kicked butt and it's hard to bitch about that. Especially since there are fans out there who didn't get a tour. Complaining about the venue/location kind of reeks of entitlement to me...

seriously guys... the city is terrible... the venue is terrible... the parking lots are terrible... the whole place is one giant shithole, ask ANYONE of us...

if you get seats on the side the show sucks... the only good seats are in the center... the lawn is full of drunk 17 year olds pissing everywhere and fighting...

the place blows. dont get me wrong i have a blast, but you guys need to bring it over the bridge and play the Wachovia Center or the Spectrum. It is a nicer city with more to do, more culture, and more places to stay (i notice the band stays in philly and not camden)... it is MUCH easier and SAFER to get there and leave there... there is TONS of parking, and not in some back dump area where you stare at old shipping containers and empty warehouses

i also prefer the set up of the arena style show... all the 10c seats are good... i would MUCH rather be on the side at the Wachovia center then on the side of camden. shit, half the stage you cant even see if you are off to either side in camden... the energy is better... the sound is better... the line of sight is better for almost every seat in the venue

it is pretty much a no brainer at this point...

    too long; didn't read

however, they should never play Camden... only somewhere in philly. BUT, if the choice was camden or nowhere near philly then i'll choose camden

  • Im not seeing another show at that venue. Leaving right before YL(was meeting folks in N. Liberties) to catch the tram, me and my GF were the only ones around, until 2 crackheads asking for money started following us when we ignored them. They shouted a little then left, but who knows what someone will do when they have nothing to lose. Time to get back indoors in Philly PJ.

I beg to differ with you. I have seen almost 10 PJ shows there and have nothing but fond memories. The parking lots rock better than any other tailgate friendly concert venue. I have been to East Rutherford, Holmdel, Wachovia Center(Perhaps the worst tailgate experience ever), etc....and none compare to Camden. You can't even tailgate at the Wachovia center, you will get busted for having any type of grill.

Yes there are young people there getting fucked up but I have never seen an actual fight where other people are dragged into it. A few scuffles are going to happen anywhere with people packed together and alcohol consumption.

The energy at both Camden shows rivals any PJ concert ever, barring crazy festival shows with 50,000+ people, that is a fact.

I live in Haddon Twp which is only a few miles away but it is like another country compared to Camden so I got from my car deep in the parking lot to my house within minutes and never have to travel over a brigde. To me it is a no brainer that they continue to play there.

Good luck getting the boys to stop playing there a few times every couple of years,...by the way the Wachovia center 05 show had the worst fucking sound ever, the crowd there was stiff as a board and it is not even close to being a care free concert experience.

Camden shows are the best...so get over yourself...you are in the minority on this one.

Ummm..Northern Liberties...you mean the not so nice ugly sister to Olde City...dude I lived in Philly and it is not much better than Camden in terms of crackheads...Philly is GHET-TO, South Philly too, I guarantee you have all kinds of shennanigans going on at the parking lot if you move the PJ shows to the Wachovia center...The show in 05 was a Wednesday night, the weekend crowd was not out then.

    camden was great

would love to go there again
  • the whole problem with camden is how they run it. Blocking off streets and sending people in horrible directions, closing lots that are half full, the ticket windows, all of the poor orginization mixed in with the suroundings are horrible. night 2 is always a poor crowd because the radion stations give the a shitload of seats away to people who are just going to the shows to get shitfaced. also inside the security guards let their friends move down into the front from the lawn, it is not a good city and the whole entire city is on the fix. If that venue was in west deptford or around the navy yard it be great. Every show i went to this tour we drove in, parked walked to our seats, not 1 problem, this venue I have been to 50 times, I know the streets, and some cops, and it still sucks ass, regardeless how you plan it you never know how fucked up a situation will arise down their.
night 1 was great, night 2 was horrible, but the band was great, dc last nice was a piece of cake and a blast.

I don't care if this venue is in BEVERLY HILLS, CA., it sucks. When it first opened, it almost didn't matter where you sat, the sound SUCKED. I saw the Who, and Rage Against The Machine(2 LOUD bands), out on the lawn, and i said, NEVER again will waste my time out on the lawn. Like some others have noted, ther are places that you sit where you can't SEE the whole stage. Thats RIDICULOUS!! I have experienced that and it SUCKS!!

This venue is the reason why i didn't see Pearl Jam, untill 2005(at the BORGATA), and i've been a fan since 10 came out. They RARELY played at one of the indoor venue's in Philly. I didn't want to see them in Camden for my first show.

For me, all indoor shows are USUALLY better then the outdoor shows. The acustics are usually better. The SMALLER the venue, the chances are for a better show. That only makes sense.

BUT, if Pearl Jam continues to play ther, then what choice do we have? (If you REALLY want to see them) NONE, unfortunatly.

Am i the ONLY one though, that finds it odd, that Pearl Jam has RARELY PLAYED IN PHILLY?

I must have been at a different show than you. I thought the crowd was nuts and the sound was awesome. That was one of my favorite shows ever. But assuming the crowd was stiff, I'd love to know what that has to do with the venue itself -- the actual people attending would be the same.

Camden is okay if you're center and up close. In '06 I sat in the last seat all the way at the end in the last row of the 100 section on Stone's side and the view sucked. At the encore I went up to the lawn to get baked and it was packed with drunk assholes pissing everywhere and fighting. Half the people up there didn't know there was a show happening.

I've been to some highly regarded shows (Gorge shows, MSG, etc)... I've never had as much fun as the night I went to CamdenI in 2006. Set was nothing special but the area of the lawn I was in (dead-center, front) was rocking harder than any concert I've ever been to. Absolutely incredible. Hey, that's exactly where I standing was during that show! You're right, that was a good time. I remember Animal, Lukin/Not For You, and Why Go being big highlights before the sun went down and SOLAT, Blood and a third set Evenflow kicking my ass after sunset. I've been to five PJ shows at Camden and this is the only one that I didn't use my fanclub seats for. that's why I was in the lawn. but it was great. Come to think of it, I think if they play Camden again, I may just get lawn tickets for the outdoors effect. It's too hot under that canopy anyway.
