The little gems to be found within the songs
I was listening to Monkeywrench radio last night and it occurred to me that (in my opinion) the mid-8 section of 'Pilate' ("Stunned by my own reflection....") is quite possibly the best mid-8 of their catalogue, even though it's certainly not their best song.
...and then I got to thinking that we always discuss songs as a 'whole' entity rather than the sum of their parts and it would be nice to get everyones opinions on their own little favourite 'parts' of (what some might consider lesser?) songs.
If you know what I mean?![:p :p](https://community.pearljam.com/plugins/emojiextender/emoji/yahoo/tongue.gif)
...another of mine would be Jeff's bass part in foxymop...

Like a cloud dropping rain
I'm discarding all thought
I'll dry up, leaving puddles on the ground
I'm like an opening band for the sun
And I totolly agree about Pilate - love that part
Also love the drum part of MITS just before Ed comes back in with "I feel a sickness......"
Actually there are loads, PJ songs are full of little gems....too many to think of off the top of my head
London, Copenhagen 07
MSG 08
SBE, Manchester, London 09
Dublin, Belfast, London 10
I just love the start of the 2nd verse "Wave to all my Friends"....is just so fun to sing and play guitar to...I could just play that one part for hours and hours.
Also...
Stone's riff during the bridge is such a cool fun chord progression.
I also love "Fatal"
Any one ever notice that this song never repeats itself or follows traditional song structure? it just builds with the 3 riffs each higher than the last...so cool...never noticed till I learned it on guitar
I love the last seconds of tremor christ. I love all the song (one of my fav) but the last lines are so good...
2007: Copenhagen, Werchter
2009: Rotterdam, London
2010: MSG, Arras, Werchter
2012: Amsterdam, Prague, Berlin
2014: Amsterdam, Stockholm
I have said it previously but will say it again....i REALLY love the part at the beginning of EVENFLOW when Jeff slides the bass right before the lyrics begin!
Sir Mike McCready is....THE MASTER!!! WAHHH!!!
EVENFLOW PSYCHOS H.N.I.C~FEEL THE FLOW!!!
"Pearl Jam fans are obsessed, they'd see the boys in HELL if tickets were sold."-CROJAM95
It takes balls to put out a UKE album!

Yes!!
Another great song that takes interesting turns.
Pearl Jam has such a great way of adding these subtle changes into songs and it just moves so effortlessly.
They don't get enough credit for this as they are one of very few bands that challenge song structures with interesting changes and bridges.
Cool song
I would add:
And by name, the name they gave me, the name I am letting gooooooooo
I was so happy to hear it in Hartford
2) The Bridge on Alone (Lost Dogs version) 1:30 in. That riff is good enough to base a hit song on... but they just "throw it away" as the bridge to a b-side.
3) Sad (Lost Dogs), 3:10 in, just after the solo when Ed starts singing again... listen to that amazing guitar "texture" Mike put under the vocals. Unbelievable... I wish he'd attempt that live. Pure feeling.
Their guitar playing is so cool and they both complement each other so well
For example listen to recent bootlegs (MSG and Boston) Stone's rhythm guitar work during Mike's solo's in "Even Flow" and "Porch".
I also love that delayed phaser effect that Mike throws into songs to fill up the spaces live.
Also during the bridge of "1/2 Full" the tone on Stone's guitar always kicks my ass...It's so raw and dirty.
And the clash of the cymbal...in ''other side' then all these lyrics..
Death ain't the same without you, dear
I make the others run and hide
New york streets seem to make it worse
All this noise inside the quiet
I can't hold on, the weight you bear
My body's broken fast, please lift me up
You can't know what it's like to be inside
The fading melodies can't beat my need
I'm not the same without you here
How can i quit to be there
Sit and stare
Stare..
Begging for a prayer
...brings me to tears.
these words in 'sad'
if just one wish could bring her back, it's sent
and his holiness is proof, it's sad
he will always love you, it's sad
What’s self destruction and how can we last?
"I cannot stop the thought of running in the dark.
Coming up a which way sign. All good truants must decide."

McCain, America's scariest grandpa!
Actually, Stone plays bass on the studio version of "No Way".
If you hate something, don't you do it too
i did not know that, i just lost a little respect for jeff. :(
Elderly Woman - most people like the "helloooo", I prefer the line that follows, "my god its been so long..."
Wash - what she don't know today, might kill us both tomorrow
Glorified G - the repeated "GLORIFIED" at the end over the guitar outtro
Rats - similar to Glorified G, the "Ben the two of us..." outtro. If you turn up the volume, it goes on for quite a while and there are slight melody changes - pure magic.
Smile - it don't shine at all...
Don't worry. Just watch them perform "The Real Me" on the VH1 Rock Honors special, and you will gain all of that respect back.
WOW, that actually worked!!! thanks.
not sure how they do it, but all the little bits of this song combine to give me the chills every time i listen.
to dust i guess,
forgotten and absorbed into the earth below,..
Pure awesomeness.
If so could they pm me ?
thanks :d
Ed
Also..."Faithfull" is full of little gems.
From Jack's drum intro to the guitar interplay between Stone and Mike...It's just a stellar song all around
They can buy but cant put on my clothes
Throw down my ace in the hole~~~~~~

Similarly, there's the descending part of Nothing As It Seems where it sounds like things are falling down around you (starting 3:21), only to tighten back up nicely as if a breeze blows through (4:00).
Or the moment when you hear the band seeking each other out at the end of the extended jam in live performances of Porch, and they find it and pull together and with a swoop you're back into the song proper.
I'm a sucker for moments like these, where a song subtly drifts away and then snaps back together. I find myself anticipating hearing the transitions and resolutions even before they come, and when that part of the song inevitably arrives it's like satisfying an itch. (Off topic, probably my favorite example of this is Radiohead's How To Disappear Completely. Seriously, around 5:00 or 5:15 of that song things are right on the edge of falling to pieces... and then just like that, at 5:23 is a moment of clarity and everything is back on track.)
Also, the outro to Present Tense is pretty magical.
[I know this isn't entirely in the spirit of your initial question, as none of these are particularly overlooked songs. Still, I thought this was a fun thread worth bumping, particularly because it's been a fun excuse to go back and listen for the stretches of songs that everyone has chosen to highlight.]
So powerfull
Immortality and Footsteps both have parts- both lyrics and sounds that take me to another place..... wow!

I remember when I somehow found this version of Porch... I have it dated 6/18/92, but not sure if that's correct. That breakdown has a *gorgeous* example of what you described, and was actually probably the thing that made fall in mad, unbridled, lusty, dirty, shameful monkeylove with this song live.
Am I the only one who noticed a *little* of Under Pressure (Queen) at the end of it?
