    I'm pretty sure that thought is 110% That's what I have always thought myself as that is merly what the lyrics suggest. I think another reason (I know for me) is that we all can relate to this song- Just like "Black". Those two pearl jam songs share a universal meaning (both different meanings, but everyone has related/ can relate to them.

    It's also been discussed that there may be som psycological meaning behind the song because of the use of the word "ID" on the cover for the album. I personally think that was just a censorship mark so the song could recieve on air play. However, it is interesting to think about the Sigmond Freud theory.
