"Fired Up And Ready To Go!"

While the band has not officially endorsed a candidate for Presidency, drummer Matt Cameron has lent his talents to original Obama song "Fired Up and Ready to Go". Written by Seattle-area musicians the Bergevin Brothers, and featuring Reverend Pat Wright and her renowned Total Experience Gospel Choir. Joe Bergevin watched Senator Barack Obama tell a story about one person, Edith Childs, who energized others with a "fired up, ready to go," chant at one of his campaign stops. Inspired by Obama's "One voice can change the world" speech, Joe wrote some lyrics and rough chords then called his brother Jon to help him compose and arrange the song. They named it after Edith's chant. After many phone calls, emails, and sleepless nights, they had assembled the team. Ten days later an epic recording was born with the intention of spreading Obama's hopeful message. Contributors include lead singer Reverend Pat Wright and her renowned Total Experience Gospel Choir, drummer Matt Cameron from Pearl Jam, lead singer Jake Bergevin, other top studio musicians, sound engineers, video teams, photographers, caterers, local news teams and a renovated theater with recording studio.

Damn, I thought this was about a new album/tour.
And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
    I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.
  • That was my first thought too.

Obama is a nice guy, but never discusses policy. If he thinks he can just 'get by' on this HOPE thing he is sadly mistaken. The only change he and the democrats want is the change from your pocket. Tell ya what, the gov't takes too much as it is, and they waste it on absurd spending programs and pork barrel projects. I do not want a nanny-state big time federal gov't forcing me to hand over more of my hard earned $ so they can blow it on entitlement programs and bridges to nowhere.

Of course we all want nothing more than for billary to go away.

Great on Matt for supporting Obama. The song not necessarily my cup of tea. He is a exquiste canditate and has a ora and presence about him. I for one did not think he had a shot and did not think that America is or may be ready for a Black President. The fact that voter turn out is higher has its pros and cons. On higher voter turn out should always be looked upon as a good thing in any event. However i worry that much of the black population may be coming out to vote for him simply becuase he is black and not really up on the issues. I know im gonna take some slack for that. Even if some are voting for him strictly for that reason i think it has it's merits as look at how America has treated the black man and we are talking about recent history i.e. hurricane Katrina. I worry that if Obama is elected something terrible will happen to him and America will be thrown back a 100 years in the civil rights movement. This is a sincere and real worry for me with all those crazy white supremists out there. I know im gonna take some heat for this post. Even Chris Rock jokes about that a black man will never become president because if he did he would be assasinated and also jokes that if a black man were vice president some black man would kill the white president to make the black man president. Sure this is comedy, but there is some truth in what he says. For the record. I like Obama, i don't think anyone has come along like this in politics in a long time since Kennedy. We all know what happend there. In the end i hope nothing bad happens, but i have a real uneasyness over the situation. I live in Canada and they are actually talking about opening all black schools to lower the drop out rate among black youths. Perhaps this is what has lead me into thinking more about the divisions that still clearly exist amongst race. They want a more all black curriculum. I feel this is a terrible move and is like moving backwards in time towards segregation, something the black people fought against for so long. We should not give ourselves to much credit and think we have come so far, we have'nt really at all. It may just appear that way.

  • could they have gotten a worse lead singer?!? he sounds like a fuckin youth group singer... this song in general really sucks... i mean i know its not meant to be taken real serious as a song... but still... i think shawn smith wouldve worked well for this little project and i know brad is also an obama supporter... wouldve liked to see him on lead vox instead... matts drumming is solid tho :D

  • what...does the band plan to actually ENDORSE a candidate?! please.

at least they are consistent in supporting candidates with absolutely no experience...further confirming that rock stars live in their own bubble of a world.

as for the rest of us who live in the real world during real time...

anyone on here who is old enough to vote...i hope you are smart enough to do your own research on the candidates and watch the debates to make your personal decisions. kids who cant yet vote...dont let anyone...including any band...try to brainwash you to think "their" choice is the right one. dont be a blind follower

wake me up when pearl jam either puts out another record or decides to tour
Seems that needlessly it's getting harder
To find an approach and a way to live
Are we getting something out of this
    all-encompassing trip?

who in your humble opinion then is a better option in this election? im not saying i especially like any of them, but it might not be a bad idea to have a young idealist not yet fully corrupted by years in congress... with a capable cabinet and congress behind him the president is more of a P.R. person anyway... and you gotta admit, experience or not, obama is a great speaker and VERY charismatic...

if not obama id go for mccain before i went with hilary... i actually wouldnt be opposed to a split ticket pres/VP this time around since none of them really amaze me... anyone care to speculate who those that are left would choose as their running mate? (i ask only because i really dont know)

Might as well endorsed Hillary or McCain.

Barack Obama who wants to continue the racist war on drugs. Barack Obama who never says anything about the Federal Reserve system that steals from the workers to pay the 1000 richest corporations.

Just another wolf in sheeps clothing. Hey what do you expect they're just musicians. I wonder who Eddie is leaning for? I always thought he was the brains but if he is also supporting Obama? I have to wonder. Stone damn, he's supporting Obama, too? I thought these guys were paying attention and gave a crap?

    8. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL): A “Dishonorable Mention” last year, Senator Obama moves onto the “ten most wanted” list in 2007. In 2006, it was discovered that Obama was involved in a suspicious real estate deal with an indicted political fundraiser, Antoin “Tony” Rezko. In 2007, more reports surfaced of deeper and suspicious business and political connections It was reported that just two months after he joined the Senate, Obama purchased $50,000 worth of stock in speculative companies whose major investors were his biggest campaign contributors. One of the companies was a biotech concern that benefited from legislation Obama pushed just two weeks after the senator purchased $5,000 of the company’s shares. Obama was also nabbed conducting campaign business in his Senate office, a violation of federal law.
