Songs you can't listen to because of breakups

I got the Shuffle on this morning on my commute (6000 plus songs) and up comes a song that immediately causes a spine tingle and not in a good way.

In you eyes by Peter Gabriel. My Wedding Song from my 1st marriage.

Immediately hit the skip button and will be deleting from IPOD at home tonight.

So what are your unlistenable songs due to too many bad/sad memories that you still (after 15 years for me) need to skip.

Sorry Black Diamond. :( I hope one day you can listen to that Peter Gabriel song again, because it's a good one!

Right now, for me it's any Guns n Roses or 80s hair band song. Fortunately for me, the men I've dated have had inferior tastes in music, so the good stuff isn't off limits.
drivingrl: "Will I ever get to meet Gwen Stefani?"
kevinbeetle: "Yes. When her career washes up and her and Gavin move to Galveston, you will meet her at Hot Topic shopping for a Japanese cheerleader outfit.

    Next!"

The songs I can't listen to are the songs I couldn't stand in the first place. So I guess it doesn't have much to do with being unable to listen to them because of a woman so much as it does as her craptacular taste in music.

a lot of death cab's material, and some early my morning jacket.

then there are the bands she liked that i didn't care for anyway but now make me homicidal with repressed anger: maroon 5, jack johnson, jason mraz (esp him), britney spears.
    and like that... he's gone.

Do you have to be getting over a breakup in order for Maroon 5 and Jason Mraz to make you homicidal?

Mine is the entire soundtrack to True Romance. Grr.

  • There are so many....but I find that depending on the day, sometimes I can get through them, other times I can't.

No matter what though, it always feel like I've been punched in the stomach!

But I find the songs that are the absolute worst for me are ones that were played at funerals....."Country Roads, Take me Home" by John Denver and "We're Here For a Good Time" by Trooper are most notable.....

Nah, I haven't any. Relationships don't cut that deeply with me anymore. If they end, well, nobody's dead. I do find certain songs painful, however, which remind me of those no longer with us, but that's an entirely different thing.

    Hello Black D :)

That song is funny. It used to annoy me til someone here dedicated it to me and i listened to the lyrics! :D

On topic, there USED to be a song by Blackstreet called Stay or something like that and it was really popular. I HAAAAAATED hearing it cuz the night b4 me and a bf of mine broke up, i was with my cuzin and he kept telling me how my bf cheated on me. That song was on in the background so since then i always associated the 2. I realized years later that it was nonsense to let a song bother me so now i have zero issues with any songs. Its a mind thing. :D

surely not being able to listen to that song as a result of a break-up is only a good thing :D

but what if the relationship ended because somebody died?

Bruce Springsteen: Back in Your Arms; Valentine's Day

I also used to not be able to listen to Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, or The Cure due to a breakup. But I reclaimed those as mine.

Ha. It's all right in the title. No need to even listen to it.
