i agree with the use of the word stalker cause i don't think any of the people who wait to meet the band are stalkers or even the mike thing they just wanna meet people they admire and theres nothing wrong with that!

Eddie is like a ninja. He lurks in the shadows and can disapear at a moments notice.

He is also a master of disguise. You could be standing next to him at a show and you'd never even know it.

Keep a close eye as he could be anyone. A black man, A white woman, Tall, Short, Fat, Skinny.

If you spot him...Do not under any circumstances blow his cover. Just smile and walk away.

    Smile and walk away.

    Good stuff.

That's beyond stalking, that's just plain sick. And you guys are throwing the word "stalker" around too much. I can understand that Mike waiting under a limo can be boarderline, but please give up the loose use of that word. Save it for the real ones that sit in front of their homes go through their trash, or constantly call them on the phone.

And if I'm a stalker.. I have to be the laziest stalker in the world.
At the VH1 Who gig at Pauley.. we sat on the steps outside the venue and when Stone was leaving... we didn't rush him. We said, "Hi Stone... can you please come over here and take a picture with us?" He said, 'Okay'.
We were the worst stalkers, ever.

  • Its me! One of the laziest "stalkers" ever! Guys, Cosmo is just telling you how it is. I think the band appreciates people who just shake their hand, who don't want anything except to meet one of the amazingly talented musicians who may have had a big effect on their lives.

    Hang out, just be considerate.

Hey, I'm new to the board, but not new to PJ...
Am I the only one who thinks buying autographs from Ebay is one of the stupidest wastes of money imaginable? It just seems like you're buying a piece of paper or *insert random signed object/photo here* that someone wrote on, if you weren't the one there when it was signed. To me the autograph isnt about someone famous having signed/touched something, it's about the memory of having been there

Yeah... that is what makes it so special.
I have found that they like it when you have them personalize it because it makes it worth less to someone on E-bay and more special to you.
I know that a lot of professional athletes will ask, 'What's your name?', before signing something because they know there are dealers out there re-selling them.

    hey... how's it goin'?
And it wasn't boring, was it? I thought it was kinda fun... watching all those E-Bay-ers strategising and being dicks.
    ...
And i think the current bands and artists... especially the guys in Pearl Jam... know what it's like to admire bands and artists when they were just fans. I'm pretty sure Ed was very excited the first time he met Pete Townshend.

My two cents - just my opinion/ethics about meeting famous people ;):

    - around a show/public event, it's kind of part of their job. They can still say no, but to me, it's okay to ask for autographs, pictures, etc.

    - but in personal life, not so much okay. I live in the same small city as 4/5 of my other favourite band, The Tragically Hip. Completely by coincidence, I walk by the lead guitarist's house every day on my way to work (Honest!!! I didn't know where he lived until my route was well established, although weirdly, I chose the route because his house is so cool....). I have seen him soooo many times, and I have said a grand total of one word to him "Hey." And I only said this because I had to squeeze by him and his kid on the sidewalk, because there were huge snowbanks on either side. Did this make my day? Yes, of course! :D But I haven't said anything to him any other time because he's at home. If I saw him at a concert, it would be game on! ;)

    - personally, I'm not sure I would wait around, but I also live about 2-3 hours away from any city PJ plays, and therefore it would be disgustingly late by the time I got home.... I'm lazy, and I'm usually so damed happy after they play anyway. Yeah, meeting them would be amazing, but they've already given me so much... :D

nothing stalkerish about waitin after a show wanting a picture with someone you idolize growing up. taking it to the next level and trying to find out where he eats and where he lives is a different story. Anyone who says otherwise about wanting to meet Ed is just kidding themselves and doesn't know anything about being a big fan of someone's music.

My assumption, for the friday show anyways, is that waiting around is the last thing you want to do. I believe that Ed and Theo will be playing somewhere close to the Opera House after the show. Sox game over by 10:30(at the latest), probably the same for Ed. Just keep your eyes and ears open after that show!!!!!

No offence, but all these threads asking how to meet the band... If i was a guy who met them then i wouldn't tell anyone else how.. unless they were special friends or something. Why ruin your chance and time with them becuase you told everyone how to meet them.

Unless it was a random city encounter :P

    kinda scary actually

waiting around four hours to see someone walk by...never understood it

I tend to agree with you. However, it appears most people who waited on the Ed tour on the West Coast (either after soundcheck or after the show) were rewarded with more than just a "walk by."

Ed was very talkative and fan-friendly on his solo tour, probably because the crowds were smaller.

I mean, Ed's bus is basically on the street at these tiny venues. It creates a unique opportunity for interaction. I wouldn't wait four hours. But if I were hanging out with my friends, I might hang out an hour or two.

    Why the hell not?

I don't see how hanging out behind a security barrier beside the bus is "bothering" him.

He comes out. If he he feels like chatting up fans -- which he often does nowadays -- he can. If he doesn't want to, he can just get on the bus and leave.

He's not some fragile faberge egg. He's just a dude.

    fucking A!!!!

We made him rich, what's the problem with giving back a little?

it's all love!!! and i really don't think Ed has a problem with it!

we are HIS fans, why wouldn't he want to interact with us?

exactly why I don't want to bother him! the way I see it, he's not looking forward to going to the bus and having to stop and say hi to ME. he probably just wants to get to his room and get some sleep.

right, getting an autograph is sort of like "proof" that you crossed paths with someone, and I can't see whatelse you would want one for. I mean if it's an autographed guitar or something, that's like a collectors item, but other than that...

For the mansifelf shows we ran into matt and jeff and some of the crew members were all walking around in boston. so later we see maybe 4 or 5 people in front of there hotel, and its so obvious who there waiting for.

so literally 8 hours later there still fukin there waiting for ed.

    pathetic!

if they can add 1+1 im sure they have enough brains to realize that none of the band members are comin thru the main entrence but obviously not.

    idiots.

    just let the man live.

just out of curiousity, which hotel was it? I always wonder where famous people stay in boston, it doesn't seem like there's that many good hotels.

He does not have to. If you are a sane, normal person, you understand that. It's a risk to wait out the performer outside, but some people are willing to incur it even for a nod, let them be.
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

everyone has bad days and i can see him not wanting to be bothered at certain times but for the most part without fans he'd be just another guy who plays his guitar after his real job & on weekends.

and also i think Ed is the type of guy who appreciates the fans and the love we show him & the band. And he doesn't mind reciprocating when given an opportunity.

my dad was an amazing musician but he just never got his "lucky break" and now he works 9 to 5 like the rest of us.

dude are you kidding? everyone knows that rock stars like him have to hit every strip club and night club in town, and then finally go back to their hotel where they have an entire floor reserved, filled with groupies waiting for them!!
