Just saw Lou mentioned in the "most depressing song" thread :p and I got to thinking...... "wow! Lou Reed." "Rock and Roll Animal" was an all-time classic in 1974 (Heroin, White Light/White Heat, etc) and then, 15 years later, another classic in "New York." Still standing the test of time!
