i am new as a fan of hers. last week i was looking through my ipod and wanted to hear something with a woman's voice. so i listened to the old stand bys for me which was sneaker pimps and portishead (both can probably be added to this list btw) and i came across PJ Harvey that a friend put on my ipod. so i listened to Uh Huh Her and Rid Of Me and i was hooked. went home and downloaded everything i could. so far i have yet to find an album i don't like and i think i listened to her entire collection already.
it boggles my mind that she is not more popular. i think the only song i would have recognized from her is "50ft Queenie" and thats only because i used to watch "Beavis and Butthead" and they had that video on.

Abso-fucking-lutely. Big Black are one of my favourite bands ever and Wipers and Big L are SO underappreciated. I mean, Big L gets respect in the hip-hop community but no one who doesn't seek out hip-hop has heard of him apart from the song he did with Tupac.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
In the US they often appear in 'one hot wonder' lists. In the UK they had a string of hits and remained popular though the late 80's. However they never really went away and are still recording music today (pretty good stuff as well). Worldwide they've actually sold more albums than Pearl Jam and Radiohead combined!
