    2. race has everything to do with it. what other fucking difference does it make who chris tours with? when it's a shitty band, no one says a thing. but all of a sudden there's a hip hop guy on the tour and people complain about it? why?
I think a lot of people will agree with me here when I say that I tried to be optimistic and believe that something good could come of this collaboration. Race has sweet fuck all to do with this and I think it's pathetic that someone would have to bring that up to justify the hate for Cornell at the moment. The hate is for his career moves in terms of advertising phones, miming on stage with the Pussycat Dolls and more. Also the reason this tour will suck is because Chris is JUST playing the new album. From what we've heard this album is going to blow and it seems that Timbaland is partly (if not mostly) to blame. People aren't exactly thrilled about the Timberlake collaboration either but he's not black. HOW ARE WE GOING TO JUSTIFY IT?!?!?

    This thread is just ridiculous.

Oh, and Chris' live touring band is fantastic.

Oh come on, this is about as stupid as people who thought that Peter Jacksons King Kong remake was racist because a black guy was killed first.

Don't try and make a big issue out of this. People seemed to be fine when Cornell was working with Tom Morello - he's half Kenyan, if I recall.

Honesty, if you're really concerned about racism, then invest your time and anger into places where it really is happening.

    You arguement is invalid.

The quality and lack thereof in this Scream thing speaks louder than anything and is simply testament to the fact there are plenty of people still look for value in their music, not just a dance beat. If Cornell were working with Eminem or Vanilla Ice and the end result was Scream my ears would still bleed...

And my ears are black. So unless you're so bold (and so stupid) as to call me a racist in this music crapfest, your arguement is invalid.

    YOUR argument is invalid.

Chris Cornell does not just play his most current album and walk offstage.

His live show encompasses his entire career. Meaning that 75% of his setlist is going to be songs you have been creaming your pants over for 15 years. (the very songs people claim is the measuring stick as to what his new music is judged upon)

So since his live show is excellent, then what is the problem with who the other acts on the bill are? With the way the current generation is, it's not so far fetched for someone to like both rock AND hip hop.

So we can remove genre from the equation. It's not much different than just having an assy opening band whose set you use to go to the bathroom and make a beer run.

So what else could it be then besides people's closed-minded bullshit?

We're not talking about Timbaland as a producer. We're not talking about Timbaland as a musician. We're talking about a generalized "chris cornell is touring with Timbaland? WTF"

Um... you know this tour IS just the Scream album? They perform the album in its entirety, and that's it.

Like someone else said, if Cornell and Timbaland had a true collaboration, it could have really been something great and truly groundbreaking. Instead its Cornell singing what sounds like someone else's lyrics over Timbaland's highly generic beats. In short, its terrible. I had an open mind when I first heard about this. I never thought Cornell would just hand all controls over to Timbaland and this would be the end result. But it certainly sounds that way.

That's the problem. Timbaland could be black, white, green or purple and I'd feel the same way. Its about how bad the music is, that I and most others view Timbaland as responsible for. To say its about race is a cop-out, and a very unimaginative and uncreative way of looking at what people's problem with this really is.

That would be one short show...

Listening to the 3 tracks I downloaded the other day, they are just awful. I love Euphoria Morning... I like Carry On... this is just... wow. Awful.

Yeah. I said that same thing. He's coming to SLC and when I found out I was stoked because I saw him last spring in Atlanta @ Big Day Out and he was awesome...but that was when he wasn't quite to the edge of the cliff yet.

I am really okay with passing this show up knowing that it most likely won't be good...and even if he does play a handful of good songs...it won't be worth the rest of the show.

Sorry Chris. You USED to be cool.

Let me be a little more clear for you: my very valid argument was solely in reference to your complaining that peoples' dislike of Scream is based on race; nothing to do with Cornell sucking anyone's ass live. I know he's great live; seen it several times this year and last and he stands great in the live.

We're (I'm, definitely) talking about Scream. Nothing more, nothing less. And my point gets more valid everyday that people are hating on it for reasons that have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE. Even more valid when I saw him this month and the 2 songs from Scream that he performed sounded woefully out of place and pale compared to the songs that surrounded them. If the end product was brilliant on ANY level we wouldn't be having this discussion. BUT IT'S NOT. Therefore we are. No closed minded bullshit here, just the recognition that great music is suffering an ignominious fate in the name of collaboration.

Glad that we're clear on that now.

Cornell will not be playing any tracks from his previous offerings on this brief Verizon Wireless-sponsored West Coast run, which wraps in his hometown of Seattle November 2. Cornell plans on playing the entire LP, from the first note to the last, without any pauses between songs.

MC, will you please stop pointing out facts like that!

Completely agree with you here. I don't know how the fuck racism became an issue in these discussions. It's a load of shit, there's nothing of the kind. Just very bad, bad, bad music, which I pin equally on Cornell and Timbaland. Only difference is, I expect this kind of shit from Timbo; he's created a career of creating shitty, bubblegum pop, r&b or whateveryoucallit music. I don't expect this from Cornell. Luckily we were blessed with "Two Drink Minimum" this week, which only solidifies my opinion that Cornell could do much, much better. Hell, Timbo could too for all we know...but I KNOW Cornell can.
