    fucking good album that.

and by saying what you just said makes you equally as condescending as the person you quoted ;)
No, I just don't much appreciate hypocrisy in these matters. Oasis are making equally meaningless, commercial pop songs as Fall out Boy and have been churning them out for years. I merely request that a fan of theirs shouldn't go about making out like they're some sort of connoisseur of quality music in order to belittle others.

And yet rarely have I ever had so much fun than when I drank a half bottle of tequila and danced to their ludicrous but awesome cover of R. Kelly's Ignition at Reading Festival a while back, in an audience comprised of all types of people, not just teenage girls.

Yes, you were at a FESTIVAL. Obviously there's fans of tons of different bands there so that's an ignorant argument. I challenge you to show me a FALL OUT BOY concert that isn't 75% teenage girls, you'll lose because it isn't possible. And you again put your ignorance on full display comparing Oasis to Fall Out Boy. Why am I even responding to your comments?

    Jesus christ...

I never said their concerts aren't mainly teenage girls, I said I don't give a shit, I had fun.

I invite you to disprove my comparison with Oasis. I'm not saying their music is anything alike, I am stating my distaste with an Oasis fan insulting a Fall Out Boy fan. It's like a fan of Warrant taking the moral high ground over a fan of Slaughter or something. Neither are exactly paragons of artistry, a person is entitled to like what they want without catching shit from someone who gets off on acting like they know something the "poor, deluded" one doesn't.

But don't respond to my comments if it upsets you so much, I don't recall asking you to.

I just can't help myself, again your comparison with Fall Out Boy to Oasis in your terms is still RIDICULOUS. First of all, Oasis don't suck live which is the real judge of any 'actual' talent at all. Fall Out Boy are an abomination when they actually have to play their instruments. This can't be denied no matter what you say, "oh they sounded good when I see them" or whatever, bullshit, they don't. It isn't even debatable, so #1 regardless of your opinion of songs written by them, Oasis are a true rock and roll band.

Show me an Oasis concert that isn't 75% full of leery, drunken men who think Wonderwall is a deep, profound statement of anything other than Beatle-worship.

Thanks for telling me your opinion is more valid than mine. I'll be sure to strike you from my list of any people I might ever wish to have a serious discussion about music with.

I have no problem with Oasis whatsoever, I think you misunderstand me. I also have no problem whatsoever with people who hate Fall Out Boy. I do however have a problem with anyone who thinks they have the right to act like they're better than someone, and can actually tell them that their argument is not merely wrong but outright dismissable, just because they disagree over something to do with music.

I mean, fuck me, I thought this was a discussion board but here we are, having stuff like "it isn't even debatable" and "regardless of your opinion" thrown around.

Fair enough, if you think Fall Out Boy sound good live then this whole thing is a complete waste of time.

Yes, yes it is isn't it. I mean, it's a thread about liking Fall Out Boy. Quite why I'm the one getting a load of shit here I don't know. If you don't like them, cool. If you're looking to convert people, don't bother. No one here needs saving.

You know the irony here? Most of my posts in other music cause me to get a load of shit about listening to obscure and weird music for the sake of it, and that I must be up my own arse because I listen to jazz and classical music and why, oh why do I never just listen to The Who and Kings of Leon ,and then when I occasionally post about some music that doesn't fit that category, another contingent comes in saying "you suck, you don't know anything about music, god, you must be deaf or have learning problems" etc etc. I can't bloody win :D

Good thing I listen to what makes me happy then.

I get shit around here just for liking Tom Waits' post-Swordfish stuffs ("Oooh, Tom Waits. You're just a typical English college student, huh?"). I can't even imagine what you must have to put up with. :p

FOB do kinda suck most times though. :D

See, THERE is a response I can respect :)

Yeah, I got into Waits about a year before the release of Orphans and the apparent resurgence of popularity and I went from being the guy at school who put "that weird growly shit" on the stereo in the common room to being a "bandwagon-jumper" (so said my English teacher who dislikes Waits for being "too jazzy" ) within a matter of months. It was kind of funny as well as irritating :p

That resurgence of popularity is to blame for me missing tickets to ALL 3 SHOWS he played over here. And even with that, I still get told I just like him cos he's weird and "artsy". Of course, then I'm quite able to prove my lack of snobbish-ness by singing the collected works of Bon Jovi. :D

  • I think its funny how people think fall out boy have reached their fifteen minutes of fame. Their last album sold 2 million copies in today's digital world, so they have a huge fan base. They created catchy songs people, just get used to it.

Yeah 10-16 year olds who ask mommy and daddy to buy them their albums. Why do you think pop-"punk"-emo bands sell so much? No one who really listens to punk music would EVER be caught listening to Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects, Good Charlotte, My Chemical Romance, etc..go buy a Pennywise, Rancid, Strung Out, No Use For a Name, Lagwagon, or Bad Religion album
    Shows:
    9/24/96 MD. 9/28/96 Randalls. 8/28-29/98 Camden. 9/8/98 NJ. 9/18/98 MD. 9/1-2/00 Camden. 9/4/00 MD. 4/28/03 Philly. 7/5-6/03 Camden. 9/30/05 AC.
    10/3/05 Philly. 5/27-28/06 Camden. 6/23/06 Pitt. 6/19-20/08 Camden. 6/24/08 MSG. 8/7/08 EV Newark, NJ. 6/11-12/09 EV Philly, PA. 10/27-28-30-31/09 Philly, PA., 5/15/10 Hartford,5/17/10 Boston, 5/18/10 Newark, 5/20-21/10 MSG

I dunno, I'm sat here wearing a Minor Threat t-shirt, a band I liked BEFORE Fall Out Boy so it's not like I've moved onto "real" stuff.

    Prejudices... foolish things :)

  • Heres the thing petrocs, have you actully listened to an entire album by them? I think your dislike comes from their popularity. Also, I think everyone agrees that they are not trying to be punk. Yeah, those bands you listed are good punk bands, but Fall Out Boy is a pop band. Accept it. The fact of the matter is and it seems quite a few people agree, they write some very catchy songs, and lyrically, I have been quite impressed by some of their songs. They are not trying to be groundbreaking. Still, I just seriously doubt you have sat and listened to an entire album by this band. Instead, I bet you make your statements based on one or two songs. Either way, you are in the minority here, as quite a few people like this band.

you might just be saying that to answer my question? how come you dont think he's listened to an album, but i've to believe you that you have ;)

my wife likes Fall Out Boy... i'm neither here not there with them... i could do without them doing that spinny thing with their guitars in every video they have... that gets annoying.
