I always hated this band. Never listened to their music, just kind of agreed with the consensus. I finally gave them a chance after hearing Thanks for My memories, and I gotta admit, I kind of like them. Their tunes are really catchy. Yeah, I know, Pete Wentz is annoying, but I am just talking about their songs. Its nothing new, they are not groundbreaking by any means, but very very catchy.

I used to also feel that way too, when I actually gave a toss about people's opinions on my taste in music. Just thought they were shit because people were like "oh they're emo crap" (which is utterly untrue). Then I grew up and gave in, their songs are immensely catchy, fun, impeccably constructed pop songs and a damn sight more enjoyable than half the stuff people rave about on this site :)

    Hah, I love this attitude.

"If you like this band that I don't, you must be a moron who only likes crappy mainstream pop music".

You're quite far off the mark mate. Quite far indeed.

HAHAHA....well put my friend. There's a lot of that attitude around here. FOB is ok. I think their first album is the best. IT was the one before they got huge. I used to see them playing in small clubs around Chicago and it was complete mayhem. Those were some good times.

The thing I don't get about FOB is why Pete Wentz is the big star. Yeah, he writes the lyrics, but that's about it. Patrick Stump, the singer and guitarist, writes all the music and is the brains behind the operation.

Definitely. I genuinely think Stump is a very talented man. I know a lot of people hate his voice but I enjoy it and he comes up with absurdly good melodies and brilliantly constructed arrangements. I actually prefer their latest album, just because I think it's foolishness to consider them a "punk" band in any way, whether pop-punk or not, and the closer they get to just making just decent pop music the better in my opinion. The are moments on the newest album that aren't far off Prince, which can only be a good thing.

Here is my almost totally serious review of their latest album :p

I have listened to Fall Out Boy and I give every band a shot before making an opinion so baseless I am not. They suck..All American Rejects suck Dashboard Confessional sucks...deal with it...but what we all have in common is Pearl Jam..so take a breath and realize YOUR opinion isnt more valid than mine.

The idea that I should be condescended by a fan of the new Oasis album is hilarious.

I don't mean that your opinion on Fall Out Boy is baseless, I mean that your opinion on people listening to them is. If I cared to reel off a small list of the bands I might otherwise be listening to at any given time, perhaps you'd recognise your somewhat unfounded judgements like "turn off MTV" as stupid but frankly, I don't have to justify myself to anyone.

You don't like them. Good for you. Just don't go off thinking you're some kind of serious music listener and we aren't.

    Thanks, good day.

That would just be a bit sad though. Like I say, I don't have to justify myself to anyone and besides, how obscure a band is has nothing to do with my enjoyment of them. I'd be as arrogant as Petrocs here if I did that.

You just continue to believe what you believe. That's fine.

    Thanks again for your concern.

Actually you called me a muppet.

Nevertheless, I'm not offended. Your opinion would have to carry some weight with me to manage that and frankly, it doesn't :)

  • They are a terrible terrible band. Their music is geared for teenage girls, their live audience puts this on display. They have nothing to offer me in any capacity, to each his own though.

And yet rarely have I ever had so much fun than when I drank a half bottle of tequila and danced to their ludicrous but awesome cover of R. Kelly's Ignition at Reading Festival a while back, in an audience comprised of all types of people, not just teenage girls.

    fucking good album that.

and by saying what you just said makes you equally as condescending as the person you quoted ;)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

  • I'm not a fan, but I love their cover of Beat It :o
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
  • I still think they make some great songs. Your right, their not punk, their a pop band, but they are good at. Say what you want, but Thanks For the Memories is a great song from a lyrical standpoint and musical standpoint.

Fall out boy: My chemical romance: Good Charlote.

as someone said, Good charlotte it's like a popsicle....
  • Their studio stuff is catchy and I find myself not changing the radio when I hear it. They may be the WORST live band ever. Those drop-D guitars with so much distortion just sound like noise, its unbearable.

PS. Beat It cover has John Mayer doing the solo cuz frankly none of those guys can play

    And I don't watch MTV
