Ok.. I am not very familiar with this band... I want to get some of their best music and give them a chance.. I am thinking I will probably like them because off my addiction to Seattle based bands... So I would like to know two things...
1. What are their 3 best albums (in order)
2. What their their best 3 songs in each of those albums (1 song from each album)

A) bands have way more than one song
different song for me each week!
Id like to see anyone pick a favourite song from any of the below albums... all incredible....
they only have 4 albums
1990 Facelift
1992 Dirt
1994 Jar Of Flies + Sap
1995 Alice in Chains
Dirt or Facelift make a nice start
1. Dirt is their best album, I think most people would generally agree. The eponymous album runs second with Jar of Flies third. many would possibly rate jar of flies higher than I do. their debut : Facelift has some good songs, the unplugged is a little loose&messy but the Livealbum is pretty good.
2. Cannot really answer this one, a matter of personal taste other than Facelift where the top3 would be fairly obvious.
Try searching for them on youtube as a starting point , then take it from there .

"Name your god and bleed the freak!"
fyi?
no 1994... search google
You're wrong... Sap was released Feb. 1992 while Jar of Flies was released January 1994. I definitely owned Sap a few years before Jar of Flies!
1. Their 3 best albums (in my opinion of course since it's all subjective) are Dirt, self-titled, and the Jar of Flies EP in that order.
2. Again, subjective with the songs, but my favorites are:
Dirt: Rooster, Down in a Hole, Would?
self-titled: Heaven Beside You, Grind, Frogs
Jar of Flies: No Excuses, I Stay Away, Nutshell
Yeah, but they are two completely separate albums. ..and I think google might be wrong. That cd came out long before jar of flies.

1. they only had 3 "albums", the other 2 were EPs that were meant to be more mellow, acoustic driven.
"Dirt" was the most successfull, but I like all 3 equally. they are all different...
Facelift is more metal
Dirt is more "grunge"
the eponymous album is more "experimental" and "sonic"
2. picking 3 best songs off each is tough, but I'll try:
Facelift: "We Die Young", "Man in the Box", and "Sunshine" (but "Bleed the Freak" and "Confusion" are also great songs)
Dirt: "Them Bones", "Would?", "Rooster" (but "Rain When I Die", "Dam that River" and "Down in a Hole" are also great)
3 legged Dog: "Grind", "Head Creeps", "Over Now" (but "Heaven Beside" and Sludge Factory" are good too)
off the 2 EPs, the best songs are "Brother", "No Excuses", and "Don't Follow"
Just buy Dirt and get it over with:D
... and personally I like Facelift WAY more than there self-titled album.
Sap came between Facelift and Dirt.
Jar of Flies came between Dirt and 3 legged Dog.
that's fact, no matter what google does or doesn't say.
woah. *mind officially blown*
1. been said, but they only have 4 albums: facelift, Dirt, Jar of Flies (ep) Sap (ep) and Self-titled (or Tripod) they also have Live, and Unplugged...oh, and the various "Best Of" which include maybe one or two soundtracks or singles or whatnot...so, given that to come up with 3 albums seems silly...might as well just go with a greatest hits and figure out if you like their style. *please note - they are more than just "Rooster" *
2. 3 best songs? hmmn, this is subjective and depending on style that you savor, and how much relevance you place on popularity of songs...
my favorites:
Facelift:
Love Hate Love
Real Thing (rather underrated)
Sea of Sorrow
Dirt:
Angry Chair
Dirt
Hate to Feel
*there are so many others from this album...really this is a must have album.
Jar of Flies:
Don't follow
No Excuses
Rotten Apple
*there are only a few more songs on this album...it's an EP
Sap:
Brother
Got Me Wrong* fav. all time song
Am I inside
*once again this is an EP
Self-Titled:
Sludge Factory
Brush Away
Head Creeps
*this album showcases the height of the descent...it should also be considered a must have.
well, there you go...hope that helps.
seriously, tho you might want to just get the greatest hits and see if you like the general MOOD of this band.
look at the official Alice in Chains website for confirmation
Sap (EP): Brother, Got Me Wrong
Dirt: Would?, Rooster, Down In A Hole
Jar of Flies (EP): Nutshell, No Excuses, Don't Follow
self titled: Grind, Sludge Factory, Heaven Beside You
Also seek out What The Hell Have I. It's on the Last Action Hero Soundtrack, and a number of AIC compilations (Essential, Music Bank, Nothing's Safe). Amazing tune with tons of bad ass riffage.
Check out the allmusic guide for more info (including actual release dates): http://www.allmusic.com
alright alright i get the friggin message.. jeez
yes.. i only was 2 years old then
I was just pointing out that in 94 they came out together..
...........
well i dont like the way people misinterpret me so i thought i would make it clear
what does it matter anyway?
lol you are funny.
Sap - Got me wrong
Dirt- every fucking second of it
Jar of Flies- nutshell (sigh...so beautiful)
Tripod - Shame in you
which of course leaves out a whole load of amazing music.
In my opinion though Dirt, Facelift or the Live album would be good places to start.

18/06/07 - Amazing, just amazing
04/07/06 ~Proud to be part of the AIC Astoria Crew~
Rockin' out to Creadles
2.Jar Of Flies-Rotten Apple, I Stay Away, Nutshell (I could easily put Don't Follow & No Excuses in there)
3.Facelift-Bleed The Freak, Love Hate Love, Sunshine
Jar Of Flies/Sap - Nutshell, No Excuses, Brother
Facelift - Man In The Box, We Die Young, Seas Of Sorrow
In all honesty I would just suggest you buy the albums in the order above, if you even remotely dig any of the songs you are going to like the rest - they're that kind of band. After those records I would buy Unplugged and the self titled one - both excellent too.
Oh and about the Jar Of Flies/Sap thing, I believe they re-released Sap with Jar Of Flies around '94, and if I'm not mistaken it was mainly for the UK market. In fact I think they are still sold seperately in the US (well looking at amazon it seems that way) wheras here in the UK it's still sold as a double set. The point being, it's easy to see how google information could be misleading.
The AIC greatest hits really isn't worth having, it only has 10 songs on it, which is ridiculous for a band with as many songs as they have. I would rather download a bunch of songs then decide from there if I want to buy a record of theirs.
