I'd throw the White Stripes in the mix. Their first four albums - Self Titled, De Stijl, White Blood Cells and Elephant - are all great. Get Behind Me Satan was just okay for me. Icky Thump is another solid album by them. I'd start at the beginning and see what you think. De Stijl is probably the most accessible for a beginner.I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.0

i saw replacements mentioned(they should have been bolded) they are a must. let it be is probably my favorite.
and i have to agree also with the pixies. surfer rosa is where i started and it served me swell.
velvet underground is another, im sure some mentioned them i just must have skimmed over it. s/t or loaded are my top 2, but every album is very different so its hard to say which to begin with.0 -
