It took a few spins for me to get into it. It's quite different from everything else, but it's a good/fun different. I love the album now :)
  • its fucking fantastic.
i bought the import at HMV. i think its supposed to be released in north america later this summer, but i had to get it asap.

you're better than i. i downloaded it. but as soon as it is released here, i will be buying it in a heartbeat. or maybe i'll just pick it up at lolla.

anyway, i like it. i'm not sure i like it better than diorama or neon ballroom, but it is an excellent album. and like people have mentioned, they've again made some very noticeable changes to their sound. it is amazing how these guys grow with each release! it's got a real kinda britpop feel at times, less majestic and epic than the last album. i dont know how these guys have been so overlooked by the world at large :(

I really like it. It is not as good as Diorama, but not much is as good as that masterpiece. Mind Reader, Straight Lines, Waiting All Day, Low, Reflections of a Sound, and the best track on the album - All Across the World are the highlights. All the songs are good.

Hopefully, they will release a box set of singles like they did for Freak Show and Diorama. IMO, I would have rather had Sleep All Day instead of Insomnia at track 10.

What is Sleep All Day? Is it a YM b-side? Any chance of a upload. Also, do you have the Diorama box set, because I've been looking for a studio version of Asylum.
  • my brother actually saw it at HMV, it was $18.99 i think. he picked it up for me. im sure a lot of HMV's will have them. or if not, they may be able to order one for you.

silverchair has been one of my favourite bands since frogstomp. ive basically grew up with them, and my music taste has evolved quite a bit since then, as have they.

its too early to tell how this album compares to diorama, but so far its on par. its less theatrical, but just as original sounding.
  • This just sounds like too much of a departure for me. It almost reminds me of Coldplay.

I repsect them for growing and changing so much, I just happen to like neon ballroom and diorama better.

Yes, Sleep All Day is the B-Side to Straight Lines. They played it live a few times early in 2006. It used to be on their MySpace page, but it is gone now that they have the whole album there. I just ordered the Diorama Box Set. I have been searching for months and finally found it!

I didn't think that Young Modern was going to be released in the states until at least July.

Actually, I was wondering where you someone found the Diorama box set. I can't find it ANYWHERE. I would pay $30 for the studio version of "Asylum" alone

Unfortunately, I had to turn to ebay. I emailed a bunch of places in Austrailia and consulted many people who have it. Apparently, places like Amazon and ebay are the only place to get it now.

i like it more and more every time i hear it. i think it has surpassed diorama for me and remains a notch below neon ballroom. daniel has more creativity in his little finger than most bands show in a career.

i bought the dissociative while waiting for it and was pleasantly surprised. i had heard it was some sort of techno album, but it's nothing like that at all. very tripped out, i love it. i cannot wait for their lolla set.

I wish I could be in Chicago for Silverchair. The new album is amazing. I'm sure it will tank here, but "Reflections of a Sound" and "Waiting All Day" would be perfect singles for the US

I think Reflections Of A Sound is actually there second single, i saw a video on Youtube for it, im sure the Austrailians can tell us if the video is out there.

I believe the video for Reflections is on their website. Also, if you buy the limited edition album from Itunes, you get the videos for Straight Lines and Reflections and also the bonus track Sleep All Day.

I saw them in Philadelphia last week. They were awesome!

  • i've had the album since the middle of march....and i can say with confidence that it's my favorite of 2007 thus far.

i saw them play in toronto the other night. off the wall. although they didn't play "those thieving birds" which had me a little disappointed.

they stole the show at lolla today. if you have a chance, go see them live. one of the most incredible sets i've ever seen by anyone, period. they only played an hour, but it was better than the vic, and every other show i've seen over the last year (and ive caught some good ones). holy shit.
