and it was freakin awesome!

i could go on, but suffice to say that hearing saturnalia live is an intense experience, plus they threw in older material, which was great to hear, as were the covers, especially gonzalez's 'down the line' and 'st james infirmary blues'

those two were born to sing together.

  • yeah.
the show i saw at One Eyed Jacks in NOLA was kick ass!
And just seeing a show there was a reminder of how cray weird the vibe is in ole' Orleans. Goths, vamps, tramps, and scamps abound. Crazy.

I think Dulli steals the show, to be honest.
But they are definately a great pair.

And like you said, the songs sound SO good live.
It puts the disc to shame, imho.

My favorite, i think, was Gods Children, when they played it it just crunched so good!
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

I can't listen to the disc after seeing the show live. That maybe the most intense show I have ever been to. There is a good bootleg of the Seattle show floating around if you want to try to re live it.
  • got to get that bootleg!

Can anyone help out? Pretty please...

God's children is so much better live than on the cd.

Its hard to describe those opening seconds when you hear 'o mama' :) when they open with 'the stations'

“Life is life everywhere. Life is in ourselves and not outside us. There will be men beside me, and the important thing is to be a man among men and to remain a man always, whatever the misfortunes, not to despair and not to fall - that is the aim of life, that is its purpose.”
    Fyodor Dostoyevsky
  • I saw them the other night in Dublin. Amazing show - St James' Infirmary, Methamphetamine Blues and Number Nine all stand out as highlights. But the pinnacle of the show for me was Dulli prowling the stage during Front Street, the entire audience in the palm of his hand, belting it out with so much more passion than on the record... It was a spine-tingling moment.
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

Listening to the Manchester show and the quality is really good. You can hear Lanegan a lot better on this show than the Seattle.

I only acquired the Gutter Twins record yesterday, haven't had much time to properly listen yet, tonight that will change! Big fan of Lanegan, not so much Dulli other than the Gentlemen record so we'll see......

I really want to see them live... I somehow was completely oblivious to the fact they played here in late Feb prior to the album release and there's no London date on their upcoming Euro tour. I'll be seeing Lanegan with Isobell Campbell in June, but I would happily trade.

I think you'll have another chance. I've heard a few rumors that they're going to do a bigger tour late summer.

I sure hope so. I get chills when Lanegan comes in on Circle The Fringes. His vocal delivery in that song is sick.

  • im downloading away, getting happy thinking about it!

lanegan's vocal delivery is usually sick, as is dullis, its just that he is more theatrical with it, whereas mark is clinging to his mike stand for dear life. bless.

Well, the Paris boot completed downloading and then announced some shit about Internet Explorer not recognising some shit, now I'm still waiting for the Manchester which is taking forever and I'll probably have to abort due to forthcoming electricity bills. So I'm retracting my thanks for the meantime.

EDIT>Just sped up miraculously and Manchester finito. Thanks back on!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was at the Feb 14 NYC show. Totally agree with the poster who said that Dulli steals the show. I wasn't familiar with Greg's work, and I walked out of the show blown away by him. The man has so much charisma.
  • thanks for that,

ur right about the charisma,. he bollocked people for taking film of the show, but everyone was in love with him a few songs later. front street is worth the ticket price alone.

its rumoured they will be back in late summer. :)

Can't wait! I heard that they would be back in the States in June or Aug. I missed the entire March tour, as I was out of the country.

anyone know why the show tonight was canceled?

Dulli took ill, as far as I know. I don't think it was anything too serious, cos the band did a three song encore without him. Hope he feels better soon - it'd be a real pity if this tour got derailed for any reason.
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.
  • apparently, Dulli did not make the encore at last nights show, he was taken ill. I dont think its anything more than that.

Saw them last Sunday nite in the Limelight in Belfast. The Stations was such a great opener. Met Jeff Klein, Scott Ford and Dave Rosser after the gig. Dulli scrambled for the tour bus and Lanegan hotailed it back to the hotel. Would have loved to have met Dulli but I suppose you cant win em all.

Met them all after the Austin show. It was pretty cool. Dulli was super friendly. Mark was nice and polite but a lot less talkative than Greg. All the guys in the band were super cool too.
