I saw them in June and they were pretty good...

When I saw Queens of the Stone Age, Josh's voice was very weak and muffled, the band wasn't in sync, and the drummer they now use simply could not drum Dave's stuff. In particular, No One Knows was a disaster.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.
  • from what i hear, they are VERY hit and miss. either really great, or terrible. i've got tickets to see them in december. i hope it's one of their good nights.

As I've said in other threads on Modest Mouse, the first time I saw them (on their headlining tour), they came on an hour late and only played for about an hour. What they did play was very mediocre, and they completely ignored The Moon and Anarctica. The second time, this past December (with Johnny Marr present), they butchered everything they played. Isaac's voice was atrocious. The band sounded awful.

I have heard they're hit and miss as well. I saw them perform on Jimmy Kimmell recently, and they sounded fine. I get the feeling that a lot of it has to do with how trashed Isaac is when they get on stage. I hope they're better for you than they've been for me. I don't have enough money anymore to warrant buying tickets for bands that inconsistent. So for now, as much as I love their albums, I am boycotting Modest Mouse.

  • Man Man by far......one of the most interesting most original bands I have EVER seen.....wow, just wow.
  • I saw Modest Mouse in April (Man Man opened for them) and they were awesome sounding but.......the venue was horrible and the mic kept cutting out which pissed Isaac off so in turn he jammed out alot. But they did play a full set which was nice seeing how I was expecting for them to walk off due to the poor venue sound and the mic's fucking up. Plus for 2 songs the guitars would cut out.
  • Good:
NIN - just awesome, waited years to see them and they far exceeded my expectations.
Insane Clown Posse - Hilarious on stage and fun for the whole audience.
PJ (of course) - (first time I saw them) I had no idea what to expect.

    Bad:
Korn - waited years for that steaming pile of horseshit
Deftones - Chino had one too many pies and the sound was awful.
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

Queens of The Stone Age now on top 5 shows i have been to

saw them in Baltimore last night and man they were rocking and the crowd loved it and one hell of a set list they played. i hear different things about them live and maybe i just went to one of their better shows but now they are one of the best performers i have seen.
  • Chris Isaak - took my g/f to an Isaak show at House of Blues as a gift for her. Wasn't really enthusiastic personally to see the guy. But he's a helluva entertainer and incredibly charismatic onstage (as is the rest of his band as well). I'd definitely go see another Isaak concert now.

Disappointment - HIM - liked their sound but they were very blah live.

    I've seem them three times...

first time at the Riv in Chicago was pretty blah. Ville Valo didn't look to interested in performing that night.

second time at the Rave in Milwaukee was great. Valo put 110% into his performance, as did the rest of the band.

third time at Congress Theater in Chicago was average at best. Definitely a letdown after the Rave show. Plus, this was just after "Wings of a Butterfly" became a hit, so there was a bunch of thirteen-year olds infesting the venue.

Another band which has put on great shows has been The 69 Eyes. I've seen them twice at the House of Blues, and both times it has been most excellent.

I agree. I was at the show in Virginia the night before. Just awesome!

Id always liked the Coral but they are one of the best bands i have ever seen live. Seen them 3 times and they have been completely on form every time. They are still a band i have yet to really get into though, only have one of their albums so far. Think they released a new one this year but havent got round to buying any more of their stuff, not sure why as they blew me away.
People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.

Good: Green Day, very surprised by them.
Guess Who, Burton can still croon with the best voices out there.
Kiss, you have to like blood, explosions, explosions and more explosions

Bad: Lenny Kravitz, get rid of the sponser and start rocking you tool.
Santana, somebody had to wake me up and tell me it was over.
You've changed your place in this world!

I could never imagine Santana as being anything other than boring to be honest, cant stand his music at all, even though he's a fantastic guitarist.

I was dissapointed with the lolla set
Great records but it was a bit too much doom and gloom for that setting.
The tunes did not translate to the stage very well.

Worth the price to hear the obstalce (1, 2) live though
  • Modest Mouse is the best, and the worst concert I've ever been too.

First time I saw them it completely blew me away, by far one of the best shows I've ever seen.

The second time I saw them was the biggest steaming pile of crap show I've ever been to.
  • Modest Mouse is the best, and the worst concert I've ever been too.

Ditto, Mouse is definitely a hit and miss band. I've seen them 4-5 times, two were great shows, the other shows were just awful.

My biggest positive surprise may well be PJ...seeing them in 2003 at Shoreline really got me back on the bus. I probably wouldn't have even gone except that I got free tickets right before the show started.

Another big happy surprise was Far, who I saw many years ago when they were opening for Quicksand (or maybe Helmet?) Anyway, they totally stole the show, it was awesome.

Third place goes to Wilco, another band whose live act made me stand up and take notice of the rest of their work.

The biggest disappointment by far was Live...I had a pair tickets for a small club show they were doing to warm up for their Secret Samadhi show. Before the show I was offered $200 a piece for the tix and turned it down. They played only material that hadn't been released yet and did so fairly badly, the crowd was actively pissed at them and the show, on the whole, just sucked. I guess I deserved it...

First runner up goes to the Strokes. I don't think I've seen a worse concert but at least expectations were low going in.

Second runner up on the disappointment list is Built to Spill...I had tickets to go see them on a Tuesday night and was going out the door when I realized I was a week late for the concert :P
Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash and I’m
delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.

I am a big Chris Isaak fan. Mostly because of his live performances and he is funny as hell. People should realize he is more than that stupid "Wicked Game" song. Gotta love that mirror ball suit. Did you know, he stays after every single show and signs merchandise for anyone in line, not matter how long the line is? Not many people do that kind of stuff for their fans.
