I don't get the love for this band on here. There music is boring and derivitive and Weiland is a total asshole who in no way will make it through this tour. If you are planning on seeing him later in the tour, sell your tickets for a high price now because those shows will be canceled.

I don't think a song like Sour Girl, for example, is in the least bit derivative. Who are they derivative of? And you can't really say the whole 'grunge' scene, because they formed as a band at the same time as PJ, AIC etc.

Tiny Music and most of Purple are not Boring or Derivative imo. I think this complaint can maybe apply to Core. Now I'm a fan of Core just like I'm a fan of Ten but its clearly less progressive then there later work.

I would pay top dollar to see this band but I am going to PJ @ MSG when they come to the Hollywood Bowl so I think I made a good choice.

Was this posted in 1992? Seriously, they shed the "derivative" tag a long fucking time ago. With their second album, according to most.

Weiland does seem like a bit of an a-hole, but if I let that affect whether or not I liked a band's music I wouldn't like very much.

I've heard their other music and it's very boring and unoriginal. Just because you say it's not deritive, doesn't mean it isn't. Actually, they got much worse after 1992. Weiland is a no-talent hack.

AWESOME show. The opening "band" sucked, though.

They've still got it! Album to come, can't wait!

Yeah, no talent sells millions of albums and sustains a career for over 15 years....... I would have more respect for you if you just said you didn't like it. And just to turn your argument around, just because you call it derivative doesn't mean it is.

I was lucky enough to see STP before the split and VR 3 times. Going purely from personal experience and therefore what I have witnessed first hand - Scott has always put on a gret show, and I think he is a truely great showman.

Tiny Music is probably their best album, in my opinion, and I love a lot of their other stuff. I can't wait for them to come over to Europe (fingers crossed they last that long).

Very disappointed to hear about what's allegedly been going on back-stage. Having said that, I don't pretend to understand what Scott goes through/is going through on a day-to-day basis. It is clear the guy has a hard time coping with his addiction (an understatement I know!), but who am I to judge whether his problems are legitimate or that 'he should just get over himself'??

I'd prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt and until I have expereinced what he has (hopefully I never will), then I'm in no position to say one way or the other.

I know a couple of people who met him after a big VR show over here and although he was, in their words, 'clearly struggling' - sitting on his own away from everyone with a towel around him. He took the time to talk to them and was, by all accounts, a very nice and pleasant person to talk to.

So I'll be supoprting Scott and hoping one day he gets full control of his demons...

I like STP, but at this point, what is the difference between seeing these guys and seeing an STP cover band?

They aren't friends, haven't played together in years, and barely constitute a band. They are doing it simply for their pocketbooks, which is fine for them if people are willing to fork over the money...but not my idea of a good show.

I've seen 2 of the stp shows so far (camden and holmdel, NJ). The first was ok..they were on time, Weiland missed some lyrics and couldn't hit some notes. 2nd time - a complete mess. The crowd was pissed, Scott was talking nonsense, Dean and Robert were trying to make him shut up by cutting him off and just starting the next song...
In the past year, Scott looks like he is taking a nose dive. This tour is just giving him millions to fuel the next habit. He is a good guy and great artist, just surrounded by some of the wrong people with problems he can't beat.
I think he is still separated from his wife, the woman who was backstage wasn't her.

The band was super tight, not Weiland. Hope the money from this tour is worth it for the band.

Oh, and I had a photo pass to Holmdel, but at the last minute it was denied by Scott's manager.

  • Saw them 11 years ago and then saw them again a few days ago - June 3 in Detroit at the Fillmore. Almost the exact same show only Weiland wasn't as crazy running around this time around and no accoustic set. Maybe Weiland was less drugged up? It was a great show by the way, they played well together and seemed to be enjoy each other.

I saw them the next night in Detroit and they about 1.5 hours late. How long did you have to wait for them after the opener?
We were standing there for so long waiting.....we were starting to think it wasn't going to happen.
But after they came on they were spot on. They sounded great! Scott seemed a little low-key then i thought he would be , but he still sounded great!

I waited 15+ years to see them....and i was not let down one bit.......Just the wait before they hit the stage was starting to get a little concerning.

The wait was normal and Scott seemed slightly more tame from the last time I saw them.

I hope the NJ show is more of an abberation than a sign of things to come. Scott was more than 'a little off'. The band was awesome, but Weiland was a mess.

    Hey guys-

For those of you that don't know, I work in the music business. I have just heard some news on STP, and Scott specifically. Now mind you, this is second hand, and now third hand -- so while I'm told it's "reliable" it probably doesn't mean much. Also, you're taking my word for it if you believe me -- and I can't reveal my source or provide any evidence to support this claim. Take it for what it is, and please don't either A. rush to judgment or B. blast me for posting something that is inaccurate. I'm just spilling the beans on a rumor I heard, and that's all it is. I fully realize I don't have the street credit here to be believeable, I just know as an STP fan I'd like to hear news from someone I believe to be very connected, so this is why I'm sharing.

source: apparently scott w has a drug councelor that is travleing with him but...
source: this is from a very reliable source
source: he's partying his fucking ass off, and everyone on the tour is like wtf are you paying this idiot for.
source: anyhow, drug councelor just sits there and says "scott you shouldn't do this", as is like snorting a big fat rail, and flips him off!
source: he's drinking and doing coke
source: apparently he's been staying away from the H for the time being.

So that's the scoop. Again, I believe the person telling me because they are very connected, and I believe the source they have even more as directly involved with the band. But again, I'm just a fan posting on an STP forum - so what the hell do I know?
Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?

I went to the show last night in Salt Lake City and have to say: just wow! They completely blew me away and exceeded any and all expectations I had going in. STP came on stage about forty minutes after the opener finished up and pretty much wailed the entire time. They were a ton of fun to watch and especially seeing Scott Weiland holding it together and kicking ass. I'd definitely recommend for people to go if you get the chance!

All and all, great show, even with a smaller crowd. I happened to pull third row center tickets and couldn't have been happier with going to see them.

Oh yeah, when Scott came out for the encore, he had a drink with him: a nice shiny red can of Coca Cola Classic. ;)

Damn, I'm listening to that audio clip of Opie and Andy right now, not good news.

Seeing Scott Wieland at this point in his career, is like watching Bob Dylan or B.B. King, you just don't know how many more times you're going to witness it. I'm not saying Scott is anywhere near as talented as those two (not by a long shot), I'm just saying you don't know how many more times it will happen before he SELF-IMPLODES and OD's on something.

He's a douchebag, but a very talented one. I've seen him once with VR on their first tour. Yes he was late, but it was a great show. I'm hoping that when I see him, they're be a 50/50 shot that he has his shit together enough to put on a good show. My odds are probably kinda bad, since it's at a fucking casino in Green Bay, WI. He'll probably be LOADED, because that'll be the only thing for him to do....
