tough one. Number one for me would probably be The Colour and the Shape. It's the only album from the late 90s that had any impact on me (and Everlong is one of the best songs of all time). Problem is that the albums I listening to a lot back then aren't still my favorites today, so I don't know how to look at it.
I guess I would say 2 and 3 could be achtung baby and siamese dream...both great albums whether I'm listening at age 14 or 30, also BIG albums that people often look back on.
A "smaller" album that was and still is great would be Grant Lee Buffalo-Mighty Joe Moon. All my friends and I loved this album in high school, and it really crossed over to a lot of people who weren't necessarily into the "alternative" thing.
I found it really hard to condense it down to 3, but here goes...
* Pantera - Cowboys from Hell
* Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
* Live - Throwing Copper
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
ones that were there for me for different reasons:
Downward Is Heavenward : HUM
John Henry: TMBG
100% Fun: matthew sweet
*runner up -It's a Shame about Ray: The Lemonheads
"I'm not present, I'm a drug that makes you dream"
1. Therapy? - Infernal Love
2. Down - N.O.L.A
3. NIN - The Downward Spiral
Special mentions:
Pantera - Far Beyond Driven
The Gathering - Mandylion
Sepultura - Arise
Beastie Boys - Ill Communication
DOWN!!!! nicely done
*slaps forehead* how did I forget NOLA?!

Ooh ooh that might be my fourth placer as well. This list should have really been a top 5. By the way, the Lemonheads are still touring. They're playing in Ireland now. It's not too late! I'd love to see them again.
