Holy shit, what a disspointment. I absoutely loved Hot Fuss, and I think I was one of the few who loved Sam's Town as well. But there's none of the catchy stuff from the first album or big epic rock from the second. It just goes nowhere and it sounds boring.

Yeah. They made so secret they were trying to remake Born To Run. When You Were Young basically has the same chords.

Actually their best album was the B-side & cover collection 'Saw Dust.' And 'Sam's Town' sounds absolutely nothing like 'Born To Run.' It's a shame this band turned into such a "nitch band" when they started out with a lot of talent & promise - Just another band full of their own bullshit.

Yeah it doesn't sound like Born To Run (although in places it does, I think), but they made kept saying it was their 'Born To Run' record. So I assume that meant they wanted to match it in ambition and scope.

I guess, but that's what I mean by them believing their own bullshit.

Lol definately, I always thought Brandon Flowers was a bit of an arse. Sams Town certinally wasn't "the best album in 20 years" but I still love that album.
  • 'Human' is the catchiest and most euphoric unashamedly 80's sounding rock song I've heard in ages.....

Fuck the fact they're unpopular.....I gave up caring about what people think of my music taste a long time ago.....

The Killers make great pop rock.....

    Unpopular? They're everything but that.
  • i haven't heard anything from the album yet besides the single and if the rest of it sounds anything like "human" then i will be definitely skipping out on it. that song is such awful garbage i can't believe it's from the same band. i really liked the first two records a lot but "human" is a snore-fest. and what the hell does "are we human, or are we dancer?" mean anyway? garbage.

It happens to every band that makes it big.....

It's cool to knock bands like the Killers.....

To me the Killers are a strong pop rock band with their own distinctive sound.....

Well, I do consider myself a music snob, but that's my own problem I'm trying to deal with. My problem is when you start spouting off comparisons of yourself to Bruce. I'm not saying I like 'Saw Dust' the most because I'm some snob that HAS to like something different, but because songs like "Shadowplay" are perfect for them. And that's what they're more like - they're more of a Joy Division than they are a Bruce & E Street.
  • well i heard the song spaceman from the new album the other day n that sounded half decent 2 be fair, im gonna buy the album n c wat its like. i thought sams town was a pretty awesome album!

I love 80's music but this just sounds like Abercrombie and Fitch store music. The chorus has some of the dumbest lyrics I have ever heard as well.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying it's a work of genius or anything, and to be honest I can't believe I'm spending so much time on here defending a band I merely 'like' rather than 'love', I just think they get an unfair rap off people.....

    I agree.

I personally think the album 'Sam's Town' sounds NOTHING like Bruce Springsteen....

I don't think 'Human' is a very good song either. Sounds like a remix that should have been on Sawdust (wasn't that the original plan?).

Shame I don't like the new songs becuase I'm seeing them in March, so no doubt they'll be putting them into heavy rotation.

Honestly though, for all the stick they get on here, one of the greatest concert going moments of my life was been in a crowd singing "I got soul but I'm not a soldier."

He definitely seems to buy into all the hype about him (which I personally have never understood in the first place). One of the worst things that could happen to a musician. Once you buy into your own hype, you're bound to release some really arrogant sounding music.

On a side note, I can't stand it when band say stuff like "This album is our Born To Run". Now I'm no Springsteen fan, but where do you get off making comparisons like that?

Oh and by the way, my band's new album is kinda like Abbey Road, only better. :p
Hello, I love you. Won't you tell me your name?

Yeah, I feel like I'm watching Spinal Tap when bands make these kind of statements.

i really like The Killers and i am really looking forward to this new record. granted the new single DOES sound like a remix but i like it nonetheless.

When You Were Young does sorta sound like BTR and Sam's Town as a whole does sound like the band were listening to some Boss while they were writing it but that's all. i think Sam's Town had some sequencing problems and some of the songs on Sawdust shoulda been on there... plus that unreleased song "Where Is She?". that's a gem right there!

like i said, looking forward to the new record.

Killers...a great band according to a generation of "music lovers" who know nothing about great bands. They have and will always be a terrible band. Glad many people are starting to realize that.

    a very valid comment,

Heres to hoping the NME dont like it, fair chance I might do if that happens

Yeah, I tend to like everything NME don't......

and vice versa, if NME rave about it, with a few occasional exceptions, it tends to be a steaming pile of turd.....

  • I have listened to it 3 times so far and I like it. It's very retro sounding if that makes sense. I love Spaceman. Human was a terrible choice for first single.
