So I realise he's not a popular person around here, especially what with that Pearl Jam/Bonnaroo incident. I admit that the guy is a dickhead, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying his music.

He isn't the best out there like some people claim, but songs like Jesus Walks and Through The Wire are mindblowing. Anyone else a fan? His three albums are solid, IMO.

Late Registration is a classic album period! Top 10 releases of the decade.
I still listen to that album occasionally.

The College Dropout is pretty good too but kinda taken a backseat lately for me. Graduation is was disappointment for me, I didn't like it.

    What was the incident?

    What was the incident?

pearl jam played late. kanye was supposed to go on after them. due to pj playing late and the complexity of setting up kanye's stage, he didnt go on until after 4am at bonnaroo and people were pissed and bood him. later he apologized to fans who didnt get the set they wanted and blasted bonnaroo's owners and pearl jam for screwing him.

Kanye is a conceted tool, but that would probably bother me too. At least if I wasn't a huge PJ fan.

You paint a very polite picture of the whole scenario. I was at Bonnaroo. Trust me, it wasn't Kanye being a martyr here.

Guess we differ on that. Van Morrison is an arsehole but he's made some of the most beautiful pieces of music of all time. I think John Lennon was a pretentious cunt but I still love his music :p

Gee I dunno, he threw Pearl Jam under the bus, threw the fans under the bus for booing him, threw the stage crew under the bus calling them incompetent, all this after he whined and bitched about his set time and got moved to the biggest stage at a later time. Then when he pranced his ass out on the stage, he offered no sort of apology and played for just an hour. Not to mention, the next day, several artists, including Robert Randolph's Revival, called him out......I think it speaks a lot about a person that their ego must be that big that fellow colleagues in the music world say things about you, at the very festival that you are still at.

By support, I mean I wouldn't pay a dime for a Kanye CD. I guess I should have been more clear :) If a song has a catchy beat and the person is a douche, won't stop me from liking it I guess. I just wouldn't ever support them monetarily. That's just how I feel.

I think he's very overrated. Mostly by himself.

I was at Bonnaroo, and there has been tons written on this subject, just do a google search.
Yeah Kanye sucks, and he really fucked up, and he whines A LOT, I mean shit Chris Rock was talking about how bad Kanye was before the Metallica show.
Tons of people don't get up in the morning at BONNAROO and find white T-Shirts to write FUCK KANYE on them unless he did a little bit more than show up late. He was rude, he didn't care, and he always blames everyone else for everything and it gets old.
I feel for George and the guys in the back who had to deal with his crew and all their shit!
Kanye was scheduled to play on a different stage during the pj show, but because he wanted a glow in the dark show(other people say he just didn't want to be on stage during any other act) well then they moved his show to after pj on the same stage. That was probably really stupid on the bonnaroo staff's part not expecting the headliner to blow it out and play longer than they were supposed to which is what happened.
So then you have Phil Lesh playing on another stage until 4:15 am, and crazy enough Kanye comes on just before that. I personally believe Kanye was being an asshole and refusing to play until he was the only one. The sun was up before he was done playing so it really screwed his glow in the dark show.

Back to the original point of the thread, yeah I like his music, that is what makes this suck so bad. I just wish he would pull his head out of his ass! I loved what he did during the live Katrina thing on tv but lately he is out of control!
I personally believe this with all my heart, Kanye could give a shit if another white person ever bought his albums again!

If Lennon is a pretentious cunt(that statement needs to be backed up with something), then Kanye is satan himself.

I like his music but he is a pretentious, racist prick in my view. Hence why he will never get my financial support for any album.

Racist? any evidence other than he's a proud black person...I've never heard him say anything bad about a white person or people based on their race.

Actually, I think Kanye is one of those rare people where you should let his personality dictate whether you like his music...he is that big a prick.

First off Kanye has NEVER said anything bad about white people he routinely talks about his love of bands such as Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers, John Mayer etc...

Second, i'm sure Kanye could give a fuck less if you buy his album and probably wouldn't want you to with your attitude

I love Pearl Jam, favourite band, and would LOVE to have seen the 'Roo set. Having said that, at the festival environment, its not cool to play past your set time.

I'm pretty sure everyone knew that PJ was going to play for 3 hours long before the night of the show.

why would anyone have known that? it never would have occurred to me, those festivals are tightly regulated. pearl jam didn't play one minute over their allotted time at lollapalooza last year. i do think it's cool that they went all out for bonnaroo, but i also have to wonder a bit if pj didnt let their own egos out when they heard someone was going on after them and they weren't closing that night. i've seen the glow in the dark tour. it would have been pretty cool going on at 1 or 2am and lighting up the night after pearl jam finished. festivals are hard enough to pull off without people ignoring the schedules. i can understand why kanye was pissed off, even if it was pretty unclassy the way he lashed out.

Because, there set time was listed from 10-12 only when every other headliner got 3 hours. And, the org running Bonnaroo said that PJ could play as long as they wanted...I'm paraphrasing there...

You have to be kidding right? They had 1.5 hours to get the stage together before his show was scheduled to start anyhow...he was 1.5 hours late...since pearl jam only played 1 hour over anyhow, what about that other 30 minutes? It took Kanye 3 HOURS after PJ was done to come onto the stage.

And by the way, I was looking forward to Kaney and hoping his set woudl be amazing and really enjoyable...instead it was really corny. And singing on stage with all backing music is pretty lame too...hell, even American Idol using some real musicians. ;)

yeah, it was kind of corny, ill grant that. but i figured it would be a kind of cool late night event for bonnaroo. kind of like a daft punk rave set after the rockers finish. ah well, water under the bridge.

i still love all kanye's albums.

I love how nobody mentions that Kanye was partying in Atlanta earlier that night at Young Jeezy's birthday party. It could have had something to do with this but of course the prick would never admit he was in the wrong. My brother and I were at the Bonnaroo fiasco and I stayed until the sun came up to see what all the fuss was about. We didn't even like Kanye to begin with but figured it was worth a shot. The show was ridiculous. Talking to a computer? Come on. I felt like I was watching Captain EO with Michael Jackson at Disney back in the day. I thought it sucked and the fan response said most everyone else did as well. FUCK KANYE!

i saw some vodka commerical he's doing. and it was something like wanting to be kayne and i thought who wants to become a whining douche? if thats the side-effects of that vodka ill never drink that.

and on the bonnaroo thing didnt he ask to go on after pj so he would have a night sky? so pj was scheduled to be the last act that night, but someone wanted special treatment and it backfired.
