Wilco Soars Into 'Blue Sky' In May
19/01/2007 5:02:09 PM
Wilco's new album, "Sky Blue Sky," will arrive May 15 via Nonesuch, frontman Jeff Tweedy said on stage last night (Jan. 17) during a solo show in Nashville. Among the new songs Tweedy has been playing are the title track and "We Can Make It Better."
As a full band, Wilco has also previewed the tracks "Is That the Thanks I Get," "Lullaby for Rafters and Dreams," "On and On and On" and "Walken" in the past year.
"I think people may have an idea in their head about what it will sound like, but it's going to be different than that," Wilco bassist John Stirratt told Billboard.com in November. "Jeff had a lot of creative fire. And also, the way we recorded was so cool because a lot of the arrangements just grew right there with everybody sitting around. I'm over the moon about it. I think it will be a really beautiful record. It's a great time to be in Wilco."
"Sky Blue Sky" is the follow-up to 2004's "A Ghost Is Born," which has sold 346,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Tweedy's solo run continues through Jan. 31 in Charlottesville, Va. The lone Wilco live dates on tap at present are three mid-April shows in Australia: April 16 in Brisbane, April 18 in Melbourne and April 21 in Sydney
......gonna be an expensive year: Arcade Fire, the Shins, Bloc Party, Interpol, Feist, Explosions In The Sky, Animal Collective, the Cure, Dinosaur Jr, Doves, Editors, Final Fantasy, Mercury Rev, Metric, Magnetic Fields, New Pornographers, the Postal Service, Radiohead, Stars, Spiritualized, Stereolab, Ween, Wolf Parade................OUCH, I FEEL MY BACK ACCOUNT DRAINING ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!

fantastic news. can't wait for this one. wilco never disappoints.
Wilcoworld.net has this additional information:
"The band are in the final stretch on the new record, which they're calling "Sky Blue Sky". It's scheduled for worldwide release (Nonesuch Records) on 15 May. Some of the 18+ plus tracks recorded and being considered for inclusion are "Impossible Germany", "Shake it Off", "Glad it's Over", "Side with the Seeds", "Walken" and "Either Way". Watch this space for more updates and maybe even some music soon(ish). Oh, and per the press release, it's the first studio record with the sextet lineup that was heard on the 2-cd live set Kicking Television. "
Also, it sounds like "Is That the Thanks I Get" will not be on this record, per Jeff's banter at a recent solo show. It's a good song, but I think I can live without it on the album.

I wonder if the article quoted in the first post got it mixed up - and "Is That the Thanks I Get" and "We Can Make It Better" are both referring to the same song - "The Thanks I Get" that's on the Sunken Treasure dvd? You know, because the chorus goes "we can make it better"?
Because I really like "The Thanks I Get" too. I hope it makes it onto the new cd!
gonna be a great labum by the sound of things...
Two songs are available to listen to here. They also played two others at the london show.

Just curious, did you pre-order from Wilco's site or some online vinyl dealer? And if the latter, who do you prefer to buy your records from?
I use Music Direct (out of Chicago) -- they always have a great selection and super good service.
I love what I've heard from the new so far...trying hard to refrain from hearing it all prior to the release....I am weird that way, I guess.
I ordered it from Wilcoworld.
I don't buy many records, sadly. I got No Code a few years ago (from amazon.com, I think) because it's my favorite album, and I bought A Ghost is Born just because I love it (and the artwork). Other than that I've got some of my Dad's old LP's and a few other old ones I've bought used and cheap at a Half Price Books Records, Magazines store locally. It's something I'd like to get into more, but I'm moving slow so far. I also need a new receiver for my turntable, so I don't get the records out to listen too often. I'm constantly turning knobs trying to get decent sound for more than a few minutes at a time.
I'd be interested in any good online stores for future purchases. I don't know of any real live, decent record stores where I'm from (small town western PA), so I'm pretty limited when it comes to buying any music, let alone vinyl!
