lineup is announced .... coachella.com has the official poster up.

Headliners of Portishead, Roger Waters and Jack Johnson leave a LOT to be desired.

Undercard has some great bands ... but, weakest headliners in the 6 years I've been going ... by far.

I also read ticket prices of $270 . Don't know if this is fact or rumor. Seems high when I was paying alot less for the the Coachellas I've attended; namely 05,06, 07. Jack Johnson as a headliner? Not bad , but too lightweight IMHO. At least it seems I get a Roger Waters set as a birthday present.

that's a pretty damn weak line-up compared to past coachella line-ups...

roger waters just does not seem like a coachella headliner to me.

    and Jack Johnson does? Oooof.

Heck, the return of Portishead is nice, but again, as a headliner?

Love and Rockets reunion should be great ... love The National, Rilo Kiley, Metric, Autolux, DeVotchKa, Les Savy Fav, Holy Fuck ... and I'm sure there are some other bands I just haven't heard of yet ... but, damn ... feeling like they saved a few bucks on booking bands for this to help fund the east coast version Goldenvoice is starting ... http://apwfestival.com/

To me, it usually isn't about the headliners, rather, it is about the reunions (Love and Rockets, The Verve), as well as the bands that rarely perform in the U.S. (Madness, Kraftwerk).

In fact, the last mainstage headliner I watched was NIN a few years ago.

The mid-level bands are great this year..Cafe Tecuba, Gogol Bordello, Flogging Molly, The Streets.

The new acts are also really good....Carbon/Silicon, Jamie T, Swell Season, Dan Le Sac, and I am always happy to sample newer acts with whom I am not familiar.

Yeah, I agree. There are quite a few bands here that I'd like to see listed, mostly mid-level or international. Friday's a bit weak for me, but I'd like to see Madness again, and Spank Rock does some interesting stuff. Saturday is the one that is really making me think about going (again). Portishead, M.I.A., Dwight Yoakam, Rilo Kiley, Grand Ole Party, and Flogging Molly would be a great day. I can see the Roger Waters set being a great way to end out the weekend too.

jack johnson should not be headling one of the coachella days either. i LOVE portishead but i can't imagine them playing to 20k plus people.

there are plenty of awesome 'smaller' bands playing over the weekend, but i would agree that it seems like they're holding off bands for the east coast version.

Not really digging the headliners, although Roger Waters doing Darkside in the desert will be pretty damn cool.

The "undercard" bands are really damn good though, a lot of groups I want to see.....plus FATBOY SLIM!!!

  • The last few headliners since 2004 have been Radiohead, The Cure, Coldplay, NIN, Depeche Mode, Tool, Bjork, RCHP, and Rage. And each year they had great subheadliners as well.

This year of Jack Johnson, Roger Waters and Portishead do not stack up, even if they all are favorites of mine. Only Roger Waters could be condidered a headliner and that is borderline at best. Yes the underlining bands are great but they are great every year. This is the weakest Coachella line up ever but I still might go on Sunday to see Roger Waters in the Desert plus MMJ.

How is Holy Fuck? I've not heard of them before, but they are opening for the Super Furry Animals in a few weeks. Got to give them credit for the name too.

  • Pretty good line-up, but not worth travelling from afar...for those of you who go, do NOT miss Dredg and M.I.A.
  • Decent line up, don't think I'll be making the trip though..

    Bonnaroo, however, is another story.

I saw Holy Fuck open for Wolf Parade last year ... mostly instrumental indie rock with some hard beats ... really liked 'em, and that says a lot because most instrumental bands don't hold my interest for a long time. Their myspace .... http://www.myspace.com/holyfuck

Speaking of Wolf Parade, when is THEIR new album coming out, jeez they have so many side projects.

If I lived in So Cal, would I go? yes

but to book the flights, the hotel, take the few days off of work ... man ... this lineup is really not worth it. It's not even like there's one really stacked day I could for ... there just isn't.

So sad. My 5 year run ... ends on this.

  • Your Vegas is a new band that I am currently working on for a project. Currently I am an intern for UMGD. This is an just pretty much an icebreaker trying to get the band exposed and hopefully receiving some feedback on them.
