So does this mean you think Ames can "mass produce" these posters (screen printed on heavy stock) in the same manner a $5.99 Walmart poster is produced and still have a high quality piece of art? I find this difficult to believe. So... that said...you may correctly infer that I do beleive most (98%) of mass produced souvenier posters are crap. That is why I rather drop 30 bucks on a nice "art quality"poster than spend 10 bucks for three crappy ones._____________________

Shocker Alert: some people buy posters cause they like the art. Unfortunately, this hobby has turned into one that supports the idea of "I have it and you don't" rather than art appreciation....obviously.0 -

Thats exactly what happened to baseball cards....you used to open packs looking for rookie cards...then they introduced autos and game used cards along with "limited" serial #'d cards...alll of a sudden cards that were $1.50 for 10 card pack are now upwards of $50 for a two card pack...but you MAY pull a 1 of 1 Honus Wagner game used jock strap card, inserted randomly in 1 of every 80,000 packs ( or something similiarily insane) and then turn around and sell it for 5 grand on ebay...._____________________

I told him not only will I take him there but if I find out he spends his money that way I'm gonna kick him in the nuts as hard as I can.
I agree 100%..swift kick in the ole family jewels ...I have a closet full of 10,000 (literally, no kidding, 10,000 plus) worthless "common" baseball cards because of what the card manufacturers did by putting in inserts and jacking prices to astronomical levels...It drove out the true collector...
however, isn't this one of those adult/child, "do as I say, not as I do" scenarios? Cause in some sense, arent these posters just giant, limited edition "baseball cards" for adults? Just an observation._____________________

Collectors will be collectors, and so shall they forever be.
How many out there collect all the PJ bootlegs (official or otherwise)? How many collect all the promos (not just the USA ones - ALL of them)?
There are some crazy people out there that will pay crazy money for pretty much EVERYTHING associated with their favorite bands. I'm not one of 'em, as I have to draw a line somewhere 'cause of the money, but I can see why people want all these posters. If someone wants to pay $300+ on eBay for a PJ print that they really want. Fair play to 'em.
These things are LIMITED, and so become desirable just for that reason alone. I took a look at the Ames site & saw 2 that I liked, which I would love to see come up for the 10C members, but I still doubt I'll get 'em. There were many I didn't like, but that wouldn't stop others who are 'collectors'.
If they got mass-produced (at least into their thousands, to be sold via the website), then they'd not be screen-prints, they'd probably end up being Lithos, and I think that PJ are not the sort of band for that kind of product.
As big as PJ are, I think of them as a grass-roots kinda band. One to champion the underdog, weather that be a musician or other artist, and these guys that spend their lives trying to make a living from their prints are some of these underdogs. Ames may now be very well known, but there are many that are not. It takes dedication to do that kind of thing for a living, cos you make next to no money when you start out. and for quite some time after that. You have to hope that a big gig like a PJ tour comes your way.
I think that it's great that this type of memorabilia is coming back (and has been for a good few years). If you can pay $20+ for a shirt, why not for a poster? T-shirts fade & go out of shape, but a poster can be framed & looked upon for years to come.
I know we'd all like one, but what we want in life & what we can have are not the same. So chill-out - if you don't get one, it's tough. Move on.
Go to gigposters.com & check out all the other bands you love & spend the money on another artists work via one of the links there. There's so much great art out there.7387 // "I'll ride the wave where it takes me..." // 28-02-92 / Astoria 06-92 Cancelled / 14-07-93 / 29-10-96 / 30-05-00 / 20-04-06 / 27-08-06 / 18-06-07 / 18-08-09 / 25-06-100 -

Not to be picky, but UD came out in 89...remember the Griffey Jr. rookie that was like $100 when it first came out? I'm not sure how much it is now but probably not $100!6/22/03 – Noblesville, IN
