I guess there is merit to first ballot, here is a list of people with 25 years since their release still not ni the hall, in addition the people who will become eligible before and with Pearl Jam THIS IS ONE HELL OF A LIST:

I think first ballot is damn near impossible considering who is still not in. Metallica, Nirvana may get in first time, maybe NWA or Gn'R, but I don't think PJ will

Iggy, Boston, Peter Gabriel, and Motorhead should be in.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

Peter Gabriel....yes. Motorhead might be the test case for the future of "heavy metal" bands in the hall.....remember it took a few years for Sabbath to get inducted.

The glaring omission from the list is Rush. I also believe that the hall will totally ignore prog rock as a whole....no Yes, no ELP, no King Crimson etc.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

Nick Cave will probably never make it in. And that is a damn shame.

nofx will never get in and mc5 will never get in. thats one thing in life i know thats true
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
    Sammi: Wanna just break up?

  • That is the most inaccurate list I have ever seen for anything. Ever.

It starts out ok and then you start listing people with nowhere near 25 years since their first release.

Seriously, I think you intended to have a break in there somewhere or maybe something went horribly wrong with your copy & paste job.

Soundgarden's first release was in 86/87, they don't qualify.

I have a hard time believing that the RHCP's first record came out in 81.

he says it's artists with 25 years since theire first album, plus artists who are up for nomination before PJ.

By the way the first RHCP album came out in 1984.

One more thing.... Alice Cooper belongs in first out of the artists mentioned. End of story.

I'm pretty sure that Rush is VERY VERY deserving of being in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. It's sad really. They deserve this so much.

nirvana should absolutely get in first go. pearl jam, no.
what is the criteria? if it's based on when debut album was released then sure. but if it's based on actual influence and value to the industry then no way should pearl jam get in first go.

The only artists I see getting more votes, from this list, are Tori Amos, Paul Weller, Tupac, and possibly, since she has a lot of "crossover appeal," Joan Osborne.

Since Ed's done so many inductions, I think the Rock Hall folk would want PJ in there the first time around. They know they'll get a good acceptance speech + performance. If Weller happened to be inducted on the same night, Ed would crap himself - he's a big fan of The Jam if I'm not mistaken. :)

The Spin Doctors don't even need votes ... we already know they're a shoe-in. ;)

Be interesting to see if Tom Waits gets in. He certainly deserves it, and has been putting out quality work his entire career. Lou Reed shouldn't have any problems (deservedly so).

Theres so many bad names on that list, thank goodness they'll never get close to be inducted. Keep in mind that someone has to induct these people. Who could you see inducting Air Supply into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. And then the all star jam to 'All Out of Love'....
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

One more thing I was just reading on the R&R Hall of Fame. Seems like Jann Wenner is happy with just reducing RS to pile of crap, but it appears he'd like to do that to the R&R Hall Of Fame too:

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,258664,00.html#2

According to sources knowledgeable about the mysterious ways of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, British Invasion group The Dave Clark Five and not Grandmaster Flash finished fifth in the final voting of the nominating committee and should have been inducted on Monday night.

According to sources, Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner, who recently appointed himself chairman of the Foundation after the death of Ahmet Ertegun, ignored the final voting and chose Grandmaster Flash over the DC5 for this year's ceremony.

"Jann went back to a previous ballot instead of taking the final vote as the last word," my source insisted. "He used a technicality about the day votes were due in. In reality, The Dave Clark Five got six more votes than Grandmaster Flash. But he felt we couldn't go another year without a rap act."

R.E.M., Van Halen, The Ronettes and Patti Smith were the top four vote-getters, with Grandmaster Flash finishing fifth when the votes were counted on the first date ballots were due in to the Rock Hall office.

But when all the ballots were counted a few days later, the DC5 had pulled ahead. Wenner decided to ignore that and stick with the earlier tally.

"We begged Jann to allow all six acts to be inducted. But he insisted that he couldn't because there wouldn't be enough time," my source said. "He wanted to have Aretha Franklin come and perform in memory of Ahmet Ertegun."

The Ertegun tribute, while very nice, was deemed unnecessary by members of the main committee because the Atlantic Records co-founder will be memorialized in New York on April 17.

"But Jann wanted to do his own tribute. It was insane, especially since he took over Ahmet's position on the board before Ahmet even had a memorial. Jann simply sent papers around informing everyone that he was now the chairman," my source said.

The Dave Clark Five ballot tampering, however, stings the most. The group, part of the British Invasion of the '60s, should have been inducted long ago for their hits like "Glad All Over," "Bits & Pieces" and "Catch Me If You Can." Making them wait has turned out to be a huge mistake, as their fortunes have not been great.

In December 2006, sax player Denis Payton succumbed to cancer at age 63. Lead singer Mike Smith has been paralyzed since 2003 after falling off a ladder at his home in Spain.

In August 2005, a terrific fundraising effort for Smith at B.B. King's in New York was supposed to be the prelude to finally recognizing the group that had several memorable hits in the mid-'60s.

Wenner's cruel axing of them from the show and the Hall of Fame should be painful to many who are intimately involved with the Hall, like Paul Shaffer, who runs the Hall of Fame band and produced and emceed the Smith tribute.

So what happened here? My sources also say that Wenner's motivation may have sprung from a controversial speech that was delivered by new administrative head Joel Peresman to the nominating committee last winter.

"He stood up there and told us that we should vote for who we thought would be most commercial, and who be best on the TV show," a source said. "It was outrageous. Some people tried to stop him and asked him to leave, but he wouldn't. He said, 'I'm not leaving.' The director is never supposed to speak to the nominating committee."
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

that was an impressive list just by the number of bands and musicians on it...although i did see some of them listed more than once....but anyway you listed way more than you needed to because i don't think most of them will ever get in the hall of fame. i mean come on you listed weird al, mc hammer, and new kids on the block. and those are just the ones that stuck out the most to me. i understand they were all really popular at one point, but their music is not respected by anyone and i don't think you can get in the hall of fame if no one thinks you're any good.

can anyone say High Fidelity? $10 says you made this list off the top of your head. Don't hold me to that, I'm broke.

    Rush anyone?

Rush NEEDS to be in the HoF. At this point, I can't think of any other band more deserving of this who isn't currently in.
  • Nick Cave will probably never make it in. And that is a damn shame.
That's EXACTLY what I was thinking as I was reading that list. He's more talented than pretty much every artist listed there.

I'm not a big Rush fan, but yeah I was thinking the same as you when I saw that list.

The only one on that list who deserves to get in is Glen Campbell.

    And yes, I'm joking.

REMEBER this is list is people who ARE ALREADY eligible or WILL BE by the time PJ is. Read the fucking text

    Read the fucking thread title.

I did in fact read the text and looking back I can sorta see what you were trying to accomplish, but all that information seems a bit unnecessary.

Basically, you're listing pretty much everyone who's ever made a record that we may have heard of. Combining a list of those currently eligible, those eligible BEFORE Pearl Jam, and those eligible WITH Pearl Jam makes it sound completely incoherent. I do appreciate you providing the link because they break it down by year, which is interesting and what most people probably want to know.

  • some of those are obvious misses by the HOF so far, but some are completely laughable. and hell yes, pearl jam gets in right away and soundgarden really should too.
bombs, dropping down, please forgive our hometown

The Pixies better fucking get in too or I'm storming the place.
