The fact that he is even acknowledging this while Velvet Revolver is pushing their second album could be trouble for the future of that band.I'll keep taking punches

That is far and away the best news I've had in over a month. And even though I love STP, that just illustrates how shitty the last month has been for me.you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.0 -

AMEN! Core was a coat tails album. It was alright but in comparison to Purple and beyond...its very amateur. The Official Matt Cameron appreciation signature!0 -

While I do think that there are some superb tracks on Core, I kind of have the same feelings towards it that I do towards Ten (and this is not to compare STP to PJ, just making an analogy): both sound dated. I get nostalgic listening to the songs, and I definitely don't turn them off when they come on, but its just no nearly as interesting as some of their work after. The songs aren't fresh at all anymore. If I ever put on STP it's usually Tiny Music or Purple.you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.0 -

agreed.. as great as the songs are live the production on the actual albums make it sound dated I think..... Purple and VS. however are timeless classics09/04/05 - Calgary, AB

Been listening to the new VR lately...it's a pretty strong album, about on par with Contraband IMO. Still, Weiland was in his prime when he wrote the songs on Purple, and No. 4 was amazing as well."Darth Vader would say 'Impressive'."

purple is one of my favorite rock records
damn shame I cant hear those tunes live anymore0 -
I was just thinking that it's really amazing how overlooked Shang was. That is a brilliant album, and it hardly got any praise at the time, and it doesn't get much now. Queenie, Transmissions, Dumb Love, and Song for Sleeping are all so well-done.0

Queenie, Transmissions, Bi-Polar Bear, Wonderful, Coma, Hello It's Late. Are all among some of the best songs to come out in the last 10 years.you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.0 -
Bi-Polar Bear and Hello, it's late show you just how good Weiland is at writing Beautiful melodies.
He should go solo and play that type of stuff.I'll keep taking punches

Those last three posts warmed my heart...that's the kind of stuff I was saying back when I first got into STP (about a year and a half ago) and NOBODY was agreeing with me on that. Thrilled to see some other Shangri lovers.I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

Yup, Shangri is a solid album, one of my favorites from STP.
If you haven't already you should check out "12 Bar Blues"...Scott's solo album...some really unique music that exemplifies how good a musician he really is.was it?....0 -
a slight delay, but fucking AMAZING!!

I think12bar blues coulda been a good album but just sounds tinny and unfinished.0

I was one of the ones in the "STP is a grunge rip-off band" crowd. Not so much that they copied PJ or whoever, but because I thought their ambitions and ideals weren't grunge or alternative or whatever. I don't hate them like I used to, but that stigmata has never been erased in my mind and haven't ever given them a serious chance.0
