when i was younger i totally hate 80´s rock bands, over the years i getting listening some of these bands, and i find they don´t really suck as i tought before.... but, 90´s are much better than 80´s ´´band per band´´

rock bands of 80´s like: metallica, guns and roses, the pixies, slayer, the police, and sinth pop band depeche mode.....

from 90´s: the fab four: alice in chains, pearl jam, nirvana, soundgarden... and RATM, STP, smashing pumpkins, radiohead ´´bend-ok comp´´, pantera and korn...

only the 70´s can compare to rock of 90´s.....

the 70's sucked compared to the late 60's bands.

Of course there were great bands but cmon.. Jimi, Led Zep (even though Zeppelin was brilliant throughout the 70's ), Steppenwolf, Doors, etc.

The best thing about the 70's i think was Pink Floyd. Brillaint brilliant work... the reason they're one of the greatest bands ever. :)

lets be honest, if you had a time machine you would skip the 80's (looking back you know Marty Mcfly would!)

there were some good bands about in the 80's and it was the decade which i started to get into music, but the 90's kicks it's ass.

that's a horrible comparison....you could have at least put the best music of the 80's on that list...that'd be like me saying

80's: metallica, gnr, iron maiden, dio, megadeth, savatage, ozzy osbourne, faith no more, etc..

    vs.

90's: backstreet boys, n sync, 98 degrees, chumbawumba, LFO, vanilla ice, Seal, etc...

I think I would personally rather take the crap that was in the 80's than the crap that was in the 90's. Of course, I'm speaking as a child of the 90's [;)] growing up hearing that crap, and I didn't discover Pearl Jam until the 2000's, so of course being stuck in a car with Backstreet Boys playing is going to change your opinion easily. Just to think, I didn't know good music then and I could still tell it was bad, lol.

After saying that, I like the 90's good stuff more than the 80's good stuff.

P.S. Nobody mentioned SRV as a pro of the 80's!!!!!

    We love you SRV.

haha i think you missed the whole point of my post...i'm saying you should have picked better bands from the 80's than wasp, cinderella, poison, etc. to make the comparison a little more fair

The '80's SUCKED compared to the '90's. Except for maybe Janes Addiction. How can you fucking dispute this at all??????? I mean come the fuck on, the very best punk was made in the latter part of the '70's for crying out loud, well except for Agent Orange and Minor Threat and a couple DK tunes.

The '90's successfully reinvented rock as far as I'm concerned.

We're still waiting for that movement for this decade. Hope it happens soon. I am watching for it after all...

Oh, and Dave Grohl blows Tommy Lee the fuck away...

If we want to make a comparison between both decades, do a fair comparison... the extreme opossing make us hate each other..like early 90´s hates second period of 90´s rock music... in fact i´m korn and deftones fan...

Most of the band's I love from the eighties and there's a lot of them, I did'nt actually discover till the 90's, because they were not really popular in the mainstream, I was only growing up and did'nt really go searching for music like I started doing when I became a teenager so it's the 90's for me.:)

    Have you heard:

    Millions of Dead Cops
    Bad Religion
    The Wipers
    The Dead Kennedys
    NoFx
    Fang
    The Decendants
    Black Flag

While punk imo was not as good as in the 70's as the 80's there was still a lot of good punk bands coming out, it just was not as mainstream as in the 70's.
On top of that you have to realise that bands like Green River, Mudhoney, Husker Du and many of the other alternative bands were pretty much an off shoot of the punk ethos as well.

I disagree the early to mid 70's were great. floyd, some good doors albums, sabbath, led zep, and Neil Young's early 70's stuff to about 78 was fucking sick.

I think it is closer then you give it credit. The 60's had some great music too though can't deny dylan's work then.

Didn't Colour Me Bad come out of the 90's? :D:D:D

Blanket statement: Great music happens every day, year, decade and you just have to look for it (the bad stuff is just so much more obvious). So no way, the 80's did not suck at all. How about the Feelies, Smiths, Big Black, Dino Jr., The Fall, Jane's Addiction, and Wire (anyone ever heard A Bell is a Cup...?)?

Not that it has anything to do with anything, but at least MTV was a far superior cable channel in the 80's than the 90's or 00's.
