How about some Rotten Apple, or Swing on This from Mike Inez?
The bass on Rotten Apple is amazing. I just love mike's playing and the whole song in general so much. it has a beautiful feel. I have never really gotten into Swing on this but the bass is the best part.
I'd like to add Kerosene by Big Black to my previous choices. Dave Riley's bass playing sounded like hearing an earthquake through a swamp.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
I have it. I'm not a huge fan to be honest. I thought that it was too sparse. none of the songs really grab me. there's nothing exactly WRONG with it but it isn't something I can get into. I love his bass lines in Fugazi though.
I actually like the sparseness. I think the dub influenced lines are both rhythmically and melodically interesting enough that I don't miss a fuller sound. I like the sparse sound because it's different. I can see some people wanting more, though. Most of my favorite bands have a full sound with very active bass and guitar (Zeppelin, the Who, PJ, Jane's Addiction). I found using the bass as the main instrument and just having guitars for coloring here and there to be an interesting approach.
So this post is somewhat on topic:
Monkey Gone to Heaven by the Pixies. Very simple, but very effective.

I know what you mean, and I like the use of bass as the main instrument, its just that Joe Lally's album doesn't seem to go anywhere for me. Maybe I should give it another chance.

It took me a couple of spins to really get into it. The first song is also one of my least favorites on the album. I don't have the disc in front of me, but I think I remember epsecially digging tracks 5, 6, 8, 10,and 13.
most songs by joy division and new order have amazing basslines check them out
