I always think this is a fun topic to think about. After some thought, mine would be:

Vocals: Julian Casablancas
Rhythm/Lead Guitar: Jack White
Rhythm/Lead Guitar: Josh Homme
Bass: Jeff Ament (by default, really... I'm no connoisseur of bass players myself)
Drums: Jimmy Chamberlin

I'd buy their album. :D
It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win

  • Vox: Vaden Todd Lewis of Toadies / Burden Brothers
Lead: Dave Rosser of Gutter Twins / Jerusalem
Rhythm: Thaddeus Turner of Maktub / Shawn Smith collaborator
Bass: Jared Followill of Kings of Leon
Drums: Liam Finn of Liam Finn
    Sax: Abi of The Zutons
Backup vocals: Jonte Short of Fried and Cee-Lo of Goodie Mob
Keys, backup vocals, overall musical direction and sheer brilliance: Greg Dulli of Twilight Singers / Gutter Twins
Guest vocals: Caleb Followill of Kings of Leon, Fiona Apple and Latyrx (Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truthspeaker)

SOMEHOW...in my warped mind, this would work. It's the versatility of most of them combined with specific elements of others, brought together with Dulli's skilled hands.

Mike McCready and Dan Auerbach (Black Keys) need to form a blues group

Sometimes. But there are some that really pull it off well and release great music: Blind Faith, Gutter Twins, Mad Season, Cream, Bad Company, Temple of the Dog, Crosby Still Nash & Young...even have to consider Journey, based on their overwhelming success. I mean, there really are many more that offered great releases, now that I think about it.

But, of course, there are plenty of bad ones too.

My supergroup would be huge. There's no point even trying to compile one...

    In my opinion
    Supergroups are lame.

More often than not, the music ends up being horrifically pretentious, overly ambituous, and flat out boring.

Basically, forming a Supergroup is nothing more than an exercise of musical masturbation created mainly to satisfy the inflated egos of bored uninspired Rock Stars.

    Don't get me wrong...
In theory Supergroups are a wet dream come true for any music fan hopeing to see their musical heros come toghether and form an indestructible bad ass Rock Band who's sheer musical talent and combined songwriting skills weave toghether in perfect unison...blowing our collective hairs back, and conquering the rock'n'roll universe forever...bringing peace and awesome music to Planet Earth...

    Unfortunately...This NEVER HAPPENS

    For Instance
    Here's a Supergroup...WHO SHOULD NEVER EVER FORM:

    Band Name: PROG NOODLE

    Drummer #1: Phil Collins
Drummer #2: Carl Palmer (Emerson Lake and Palmer)
Keyboards: Keith Emerson(Emerson Lake and Palmer, King Crimson)
    Multi Instruments: Rick Wakeman (Yes)
    Lead Guitar#1: Joe Satriani
    Lead Guitar#2: Yngwie Malmsteen
    Lead Guitar#3: Buckethead
    Bass/Vocals Geddy Lee (Rush)
