I always admired Nicko McBrain (IRON MAIDEN) and Tim "Herb" Alexander from Primus. Can't remember his name but the guy who plays in Dave Matthews Band is great too.

    Jon Theodore.
  • Zack Starkey, drummer for The Who, son of Ringo, godson of Moonie. Actually, I think he is channelling Keith Moon...

That's how I felt when I saw him.

  • LOL!!! at Joey Jordison being the best drummer...

he can't lay a finger on Jon Theodore or Brendan Canty.

  • I've always loved Sean Kinney as a drummer too.

Is he a good drummer? (AIC).

I loved watching him on unplugged. He makes it look effortless.

    Agreed

I personally think Tim Alexander is the best: very technical and different

Love Carter Beauford from DMB as well

    Others:
Matt Cameron (he really is one of the best)
    Danny Carey
    Neil Peart
    Keith Moon
    Mike Portnoy
    Buddy Rich

    Rock - Neil Peart

  • Some of my favorites:

    Neil Peart - Rush
    Nicko McBrain - Iron Maiden
    Lars Ulrich - Metallica

    Some great younger drummers:

The Rev - Avenged Sevenfold (this guy rocks)
    Jason Bittner - Shadows Fall

On a side note, someone mistakenly listed Geddy Lee as a drummer. Interestingly, Matt Cameron did all the percussion on Geddy's solo album, "My Favorite Headace". When asked about it, Geddy said, "Neil's great, but Matt is no slouch".

Great for Phish, has some unique polyrhythms and odd timings, but I don't consider him an all-time great. He didn't need to be to fit in to Phish. He held down the fort while Trey and Page did their thing. Him and Gordo were the perfect backbone.

  • There's really no way to say best drummer alive but the best mainstream rock drummer that I am currently aware of is Thomas Pridgen of the Mars Volta. Funny, I used to say Jon Theodore was the best, I think the band just gets the most out of their drummers.

I still prefer Theodore! But that's just me.
