What about people who have no hobbies at all?

My boss appears to have absolutely no interests at all... I find that weird.

He doesn't even act like he's interested in his own business. He doesn't listen to music, no sports, no garden or yard work, watches a little TV (likes Survivor), doesn't follow politics close enough to carry an educated conversation....I just can't figure the guy out.

I know several others like this as well and they kinda creep me out.

Why are you surprised that people don't know them? I know absoutely loads of people who wouldn't have heard those songs (I've never heard Comfortably Numb myself - am I not a 'true' fan of music?), and the same for the Star Wars trilogy thing (in fact, even more so).

Never have heard, Comfortably Numb... BULLSHIT!

I don't think I've ever heard Comfortably Numb either (well unless the Scissor Sister's cover counts). It's not that hard to believe. I imagine there are quite a few people under 25 who haven't heard it.

My buddy i work along side( we're both joiners) he doesn't have any intrest in music, sure we listen to the radio at work but i know he thinks i'm odd for going off to gigs and the like. We still get on really well though! just different outlooks in life, although i nearly fell off a roof one day about 2yrs ago when the radio station we had on played "whole lotta love" and I said "i can't belive radio one's playing Led Zepplin!" and he said -i swear on my kids lives! " who the fuck are Led Zepplin?" and he was totally fuckin serious! because he took offence when i took the piss out of him for not knowing!! he can be a huffy wee git at times!

that's unbelievable... and scary at the same time. Zeppelin are the epitome of rock music. I don't think I could ever develop a meaningful friendship with anyone who doesn't share my enthusiasm for music. I never have actually. I would have to agree that it's a very dull and odd characteristic to have.
It's no surprise that many of the German nazis back in the day were so indifferent to the arts and music.

That just stuns me...That's like never having heard of the Bible.

well, I guess this is a very Bias thread based on this message pit is for a band who plays music. I love music, but I'm just going to stick up for those weirdos a second.

Some people just don't possess the musical or fine art appreciation... They probably think hardcore music lovers like us are crazy! Well, just saying.

If I had to choose between being deaf or blind, I would easily choose being blind. I can't think of anything as joyful as music-not even sex. Maybe I'm too into music but I listen to at least 5 new albums every week.

I went out with a girl a few times that said she had never heard of Pearl Jam which really blew my mind-and this was in the 90s even. Other than that, I've known a few people here and there that are just indifferent to music, and I really have a hard time relating to these people. Or more commonly, I know certain people who, for some reason or another, stopped listening to music in the 80s or 90s. I guess they're passionate about music from that decade, but they have no desire to seek out new music. It's really too bad, too, since I consider 2006-2008 to be probably the best era for music compared with any other time in the history of music.

As for the Star Wars thing, I saw a couple of the movies when I was about 7 but I vaguely remember them, and I haven't seen any of the prequels.

No, it really isn't. I'm 17 and have only being listening to music seriously for about 3, 4 years. Pink Floyd doesn't appeal to me (yet?) and I've never heard the song. I've heard OF it, just not heard it.

Pink Floyd are one of those bands that are massive for the last generation, but for teenagers/early 20s (maybe even stretching to mid and late 20s) today are a fairly cultish band other than the obvious hits. I like the occassional song (The Big Gig in the Sky is immense) but generally PF do nothing for me. The only full PF album I listen to is Dark Side of the Moon.

It's really not that hard to believe that young people don't listen to Pink Floyd. Their music hasn't really aged that well, too spacey and drawn out. Plenty of people may claim to like Pink Floyd, but very few would have heard all albums, just as many people like to claim they like David Bowie/Led Zeppelin/The Ramones/The Beatles/Jimi Hendrix having only heard the hits.

Oh, and most music fans of heard OF Comfortably Numb, many just haven't heard it. Just as everyone's heard OF the bible but not everyone has read it.

I'm soon to be 21, have heard most of everything by Pink Floyd (water's era), and much or most of every Zeppelin, Beatles, and Hendrix disc. Hmmm...my generation should look into a few of these guys. I don't understand how someone can enjoy a derivative without having atleast some interest in the creators.

Obviously some people our age have, but my point is a majority of people don't. Everyone's heard Dark Side of the Moon and maybe some of The Wall, but past that the average joe 21 y.o. would be struggling. Out of all the big 70s bands I'd probably go as afar as to say that Pink Floyd are one of the most ignored. I'm sure some people would see that as some great "travesty rabble rabble rabble", but it's just the way it is. Looking at today's music Pink Floyd didn't really seem to influence many bands, apart from maybe Muse and Radiohead, definitely not as influential as say led Zepp or Hendrix.

They have influenced a lot more bands than just those two, I can assure you of that. They gave a whole generation of bands a reason to make drone and noise, "art".

Yeah, I am totally confused by people that don't really like music. People that just casually listen to radio and are just fine with talk radio instead are strange to me. Its just such a huge part of my life and I'd think its that way for the average person. If you have complete opposite taste as mine, but still really do like your music, I understand that.
