Lightning totally isn't that good. In fact, old Metallica is overrated in general. I like it, but Load and Reload are by far the most mature albums, even if they are a little inconsistent. And S&M is the best thing they've ever done.

I absolutley HATE Metallica's Ride The Lightning and believe it is their absolute WORST album ever. I'm not saying this for shock value, I REALLY HATE it. I like so many of their other albums though, even some songs from Load/Reload! But come on, Ride The Lightning is pure trash!

I couldn't disagree more. I think Ride The Lightning is a classic album and gives Master Of Puppets a run for its money as Metallica's best album. Side one of RTL is basically perfect in my view and side two is flawed but still very worthy.

Load & Reload can be as " Mature " as you wish them to be. There is no heart or fire on those albums. The songs are good, and I like them, but they seem very programmed. Lightning & Puppets are in a different universe than the Loads -
