I absolutley HATE Metallica's Ride The Lightning and believe it is their absolute WORST album ever. I'm not saying this for shock value, I REALLY HATE it. I like so many of their other albums though, even some songs from Load/Reload! But come on, Ride The Lightning is pure trash!

I used to be a huge Metallica fan but I really havent listened to anything pre-Load in at least a year and I'm really not a metal fan at all anymore....Load is a very underrated album though. People hate on it way too much
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

    Some die just to live.
  • I like King Nothing, Fuel, and The Unforgiven II from Load/Reload.

why would anyone hate you for that? metallica is not exactly near and dear to many people's hearts around here...

I cannot agree. Fight Fire with Fire, Ride the Lightning, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Fade to Black, Trapped Under Ice, Creeping Death, Call of the Ktulu. I dislike Escape but love the rest. It's no Master of Puppets, but I love it. You should give it more chance :)

I guess, but some people will get really pissed if you call their favorite album pure trash. And I guess I shouldnt have made this same thread on a Metallica forum. That's on my Top 20 list of the stupidest things that, I've ever done!

I like the first two tracks but I never really bothered with the rest but at your advice, I will try it again.

how could an album that has 'for whom the bell tolls', 'fade to black' AND 'creeping death' on it be trash?

metallica's first four albums are perfect from start to finish...

** edit - i like the black album from start to finish, load/re-load are good, but with some weak songs and i am one of the few around here that will admit to liking st anger **

I admit I needed time to grow on this album, but it's like Metallica's No Code for me. Every listen it gets better. James actually had some great lyrics on this album too if you look for that :)

2, 4, 7 are the best tracks in my opinion, so if no others try those :D

I think because you're calling it better than St. Anger might have a little to do with it ;)

Oh shit you're right, although Frantic was good, St. Anger just sucks.

please, i'm not about to get mad if you don't like an album i love, i just don't see how you can call the album trash. i like st anger a lot, but i could totally understand if you called that album trash...

I shamefully admit St. Anger isn't horrible. It isn't great either. I love Some Kind of Monster and St. Anger and Frantic are good. From what I've heard from that album, it isn't shit, but mediocre and unoriginal for Metallica.

you are wrong :D Ride the lightning is by far their best album. way better than puppets even...

honestly I WAY prefer to MoP. I prefer the old school thrash sound. Puppets became more progressive. I also prefer megadeth's peace sells... to rust in peace

I guess I like Puppets better because it's their most mature album with Cliff. Plus every song on Puppets is so damn catchy and the structure is amazing (like Ride the Lightning and Kill 'em All) ;) Ride the Lightning is awesome, but I also put Kill 'em All ahead of it.
Never could get into Megadeath - Dave Mustaine really pisses me off...

Aside from Escape, and cheesy lyrics in Trapped Under Ice, it's an AWESOME album.

I like the lyrics for Trapped Under Ice ;) Otherwise I agree 100%.
It would suck to be anybody James sings about on this album.

The one major thing that keeps St. Anger from being a great album is that retarded pots and pans drum sound. I'm hoping Rick Rubin does great things with this band for the next album. Its about time they got away from Bob Rock.

    master of puppets
    ...and justice for all

Even though I think that Metallica is very overrated as a band, Ride the Lightning is their best album (yes, even better than Master of Puppets).
James vocals was at his very best on this album espectially on the song 'Ride the Lightning.

Creeping Death is probably the best song they ever wrote, but the rest of it is kind of weak, I'll agree. 3 or 4 songs I really like, though

    Agreed.

St Anger is probablly one of the worst albums I have ever had the misfortune to hear.

    I liked Ride the Lightning.
Can't Fucking stand St. Anger though, no matter how much I try to pretend it doesn't suck. The drums sound absolutely terrible and destroy any good songs the album has to offer (which are few and far between as it is!)
    Which came first,
the bad idea or me befallen by it?

Lightning is a very good album. Trash? I think not

You could take Load, Reload and St.Anger and put together one decent album and it still could not touch Lightning.
