just watch that and the starting beat at the start just sounds so beast. He may not be ultra fast + technical etc but im really getting into his playing. Just wondered if anyone else like the random/cool bass drum beats he does. ALso happens in the master of puppets breakdown.
Hmm.. I really don't mean to sound like a dick but I watched the video and I'm still not convinced. There's a few nice double bass drum bits, but they're few and far between and I still find his timing slightly off. It's basically a very simple groove he's playing.
Main thing is, aside from the occasional double bass drum, there's nothing he's doing here that I couldn't do myself. I know that sounds arrogant. I don't mean it to.
'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'
Now that's what I'm talking about. He's combining groove with perfect technique and complexity. I'm not talking about wanting 'fast', just effortless and packed with technique.
This is the difference. Lars pounds the drums as hard as he can as if his life depended on it.. he's going to be knackered after 30 seconds. THIS GUY is effortless and looks like he could play these grooves in his sleep.
It's all about technique and style, NOT about strength or how hard you hit. It's in the wrists, not the arms and shoulders.

I hate how his drumming sounds at the moment and he is such a nasty little man.

Drumming on Muppets is wicked, no doubt. Olympic athletes do not mainatin their peak performance forever, and it's unrealistic to expect Lars to.
Besides which, that Jools Holland show sucks hugely. I've only ever seen it a couple of times and I don't get why it is so huge.
Jools is about the worst interviewer ever. No atmosphere in that studio. I watched a bunch of bands put in off-kilter performances.
Jools is a British institution, you have to watch him week in week out to totally get him...
Hes a great guy, but I would agree his interviewing isnt great and isnt getting any better, he always asks shit questions and not what I personally want to know....
However there have been some awesome shows, notably Pearl jam were fucking great on there, as were the Verve, kings of leon (quite recently), Robert Randolph, Radiohead, U2 and many others, .....Jools is a great place to find new artists, as he doesnt just play whats on the current trendy playlists.
All being said, if you ask most good drummers, they will tell you Lars isnt that good at all, I've always liked him but to the experts I'm told hes lame

oh sure yeah no you not sounding like a dick. I probably hyped him too much there but whether its just simple etc i still think it sounds pretty cool regardless of how technical it is etc. But yeah a lot metallica songs are just the same beat and he does pound that snare lol.
