I've been hearing rumours of a lot of great bands coming from Canada. I'm already obsessed with Arcade Fire. Can anyone list some more?

Broken Social Scene have quickly become one of my favourite bands since i started listening to them last year, self titled album is amazing, as is you forgot it in people.

I'll second that, the song Naveed never fails to floor me.

Our Lady Peace's early work (Naveed and maybe Clumsy) are worth checking out. I don't much care for anything after that.

The Tragically Hip are solid but haven't been spectacular since the 90's. Up To Here, Road Apples, Fully Completely and Day For Night are four of the most definitive Canadian pop culture albums in existence.

Sloan is a really good band that hasn't enjoyed a lot of commercial success despite a few hit songs and a few great albums.

Death From Above 1979 is one of the most unique bands I've ever heard and one of my favourite Canadian bands. They're pretty well known now.

If you've heard or like The Tragically Hip you'd probably like The Rheostatics, though I don't have enough experience with their music to recommend anything.

Neil Young is an obvious one.

I Mother Earth had two CDs in the 90's called Dig and Scenery & Fish that are really good.

One of the best bands you might never hear about from the city of Winnipeg is a band called Hot Live Guys. I don't know how much they tour, but I've seen them many times here in Winnipeg and their live shows are incredible. Please, please, please if anybody ever notices that Hot Live Guys are playing in your city go see them. You'll never regret it. http://www.myspace.com/hotliveguys for a taste.

There is no question that those are some of the Hip's best work but Phantom Power is a killer album as well. It's probably one of my favourites.

    Don't forget Sam Roberts people.

    Oh and Nickelback! Just joking!

  • Lowest of the Low - An incredible band...period! Three amazing studio albums...start with their first one 'Shakespeare My Butt' and go from there.

As for the Rheostatics, go get 'Melville' and 'Whale Music'...their finest two hours.
