  • If you haven't already, I encourage you to listen to Pistachio Medley, it's on the Zero singe. It's 25 minutes worth of shorth clips of band demos, most of them rip roaring amazing riffs that any other band would have hailed as their greatest single ever. Billy was so prolific he just had to throw them all together and say F it, there's not enough time for my genius.

Yeah, That's Billy for ya. But as for the new Pumpkins, I really really hope Paz Lenchantin is their bassist or Melissa Auf Der Maur. That would be tits!!!!

  • CAN'T WAIT THE NEW SP ALBUM!!! I adore Machina I & especially Machina II & there won't be happier person alive if the new album would sound like it ( not that I would complain if it would sound a bit like Adore ;-)

    ademas me muero por ti
  • I hope it's more like Gish and Siamese Dream. In other words, I hope it's full of great Corgan guitar work.

I was disappointed to hear things didn't work out with Eric Avery on bass. His Bass lines with Corgan's guitar could have been really amazing.

It will be a great Pumpkins record. As far as whether or not it will stand up to what amounts to "classic" records like Gish, Siamese Dream, and MCIS...that is a mighty tall order to fill.

Just keep in mind that Mr. Corgan was a very conflicted, depressed, troubled person in those days. He has since found God and his life has taken a complete 180. Not saying that it will have a good or bad influence on his work...but until I hear it, I will be worried that he's gone Cornell on us.

No disrespect to Chris. I think it's great that he has a new lease on life and is living clean...just that his Audioslave work doesn't hold a candle to the work he did when he was living his own private hell. I hope that the same fate isn't awaiting Billy...though given the alternative, I'd rather him be happy and making music that I can't relate to, than in the eye of a hurricane making music that's revolutionary.

    Think i'd prefer the latter

i really don´t expecting something amazing from them, just an average album with a good media cover...

good comeback groups would be soundgarden or ratm but it´s 100% imposible...

i've always felt that once he became big, after MCIS, he lost the gloom that made the pumpkins what they were. so to keep singing about how life sucked, when he was banging supermodels, was just silly.

i think the music will be tight on this new disc, but i'll reserve judgment on the lyrics until after i hear them!

Well you also have to consider the fact that after Mellon Collie when Adore was being released, Corgan claimed he started to become a colder person on the inside, and as previously mentioned, he has found God in his life. However, these emo panzies don't know what "depressed" really is. Only Billy does ;)

  • I encourage everyone to buy Pisces Iscariot. A band with B-Sides this good, perhaps on par with Pearl Jam is worth getting back into!

    I love you Billy! :D

Mellon collie was a real masterpiece.
    This album was awesome.
I saw the smashing in Belgium during this tour in April 96 and the show was so incredible...
With PJ I saw this year, this show is the best I saw...

Pisces Iscariot is probably my favorite Pumpkins disc. Starla, Obscured, La Dolly Vita, Frail & Bedazzled, and on and on. I mean, I think it is truly a real solid album on its own.

was insane. I don't think any songwriter can match the quality he had in the "mellon collie" period. Even the b-sides on the Airplane flies high are better than most bands a-sides. He must have written about 10 songs a day back then.

I agree, Mellon Collie was brilliant...which makes it all the more vexing how he could screw up the Landslide cover so much.

Another gem I recently found was the Reel Sessions.. it's like listening to a sequel of Gish.. amazing stuff.. and some really funny shit aswell with Billy and James fucking around in the studio probably in their early 20s.

I agree Billy was writing some very strong stuff at that point, but Neil Young and Bob Dylan both come to mind of having equallly prolific periods of creativity.

but yeah Billy had the juices going during that time
what is that 'but' about? Neil and Bob are still making brilliant music almost 40 years later (for Dylan it's over 40 years).

    Amazing man.

BTW, Smashing Pumpkins are back together in some form, so you might as well use the present tense.

Neil and Bob...lol. They should team up and do an album together. They could call it

    No, Not Like That :p
  • From what I've heard, the new Pumpkins is supposed to be Siamese Dream/Mellon Collie...in other words...THIS ALBUM IS GONNA KICK US IN THE NUTS!!!!

So basically, the new Smashing Pumpkins have ironically strived to become the old Smashing Pumpkins. Not that it's a bad thing I guess, I love those albums.
    Which came first,
the bad idea or me befallen by it?

Chances are it's gonna fucking rock because Corgan is gonna come out and make these emo panzies look like shit.
Oh please let it be so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I just read on punktastic.com that the Pumpkins are going to be playing the European summer festivals.

Sunday night at Reading I would say is a certainty

Yeah I think it was confirmed that they'd be in Europe...however I'm hoping they're in the states here REAL soon.

  • Even if Corgan manages to pull off a decent album, it'll still suck live.

Without a doubt MCIS was one of the most brilliant creative peaks in rock in the past couple decades, unfortunately the drop off was just as mind blowing in it's steep-ness. I think Corgan is far too self-indulgent to really produce anything memorbale, but we'll see.

As for Cornell, I think his most recent work with Audioslave far exceeds that of the first two albums and much of his solo album. I'm really excited to see what solo material he comes up with.

  • I adore Corgan.... he is a musical genius. I don't through this statement around willy nilly. I reserve it for him and trent. His peak is siamese dream and mellon collie, but that man has an ability to astound with his next project. I wait with baited breath. It is hard, however to believe that anything can sound as good when you are 27 as it did when you were 15...

I love Pisces Iscariot. Songs like Whirl, Starla, and their cover of the Fleetwood Mac song, "Landslide" are the highlights for me. It is my 2nd favorite Pumpkins album, next to Siamse Dream of course;)

I can't wait to see what Billy comes up w/next w/the Smashing Pumpkins. At first I was skeptic about the Pumpkins and whether or not D'arcy and James might join them, but ya know, just to have Billy and Jimmy together and knowing that they are going to play their hearts out and give it their all makes me happy :) I was also touched by Billy's message, in regards to playing to fans that had missed them the first time around, just like me. :) I never got to see them live b/c I lived practically in the middle of nowhere and the nearest major city was 5 hours away. :( But now that they are going to tour behind this, i'm happy as a clam :D
